Behold The Handmaiden

"And Mary said, "Behold the handmaid of the Lord, be it to me
 according to thy word. And the angel departed from her. "

"Then Mary said, "My soul magnifies the Lord,

and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior!

For He has looked with favor on the

humble state of His servant.

From now on all generations

 will call me blessed.

For the Mighty One has done

great things for me.

Holy is His name.

His mercy extends to those who fear Him,

from generation to generation.

He has performed mighty deeds

with His arm;

He has scattered those who are proud

in the thoughts of their hearts.

He has brought down rulers from their thrones,

but has exalted the humble.

He has filled the hungry with good things,

but has sent the rich away empty.

He has helped His servant Israel,

remembering to be merciful.

He has promised to our fathers,

to Abraham and his descendants forever."

National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day 2025: "Go Down Death"

 Eighty four years ago today- Sunday, December 7, 1941- the
Reverend Peter Marshall Sr. preached to the regiment of midshipmen in
 the graduating class at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.

Prior to his speaking engagement that morning, Dr. Marshall felt a
sudden urge to change the topic of the homily he had chosen that day.
 The Holy Spirit led him to an entirely different theme, based on
a passage from the Book of James 4:14:

 "For what is your life? It is even a vapor, that
appeareth for a little time and then vanisheth away."

  Dr. Marshall preached a sermon entitled, "Go Down Death"
in which he used the following illustration:

"In a home of which I know, a little boy-the only son- was ill with an
incurable disease.  Month after month his mother had tenderly nursed him,
read to him, and played with him, hoping to keep him from realizing
the dreadful finality of the doctor's diagnosis.

 But as the weeks went on and he grew no better, the little fellow gradually
 began to understand that he would never be like the other boys he saw
 playing outside his window and, small as he was, he began to understand
the meaning of the term, death, and he, too, knew that he was to die.

One day his mother had been reading to him the stirring tales of King Arthur
and his Knights of the Round Table: of Lancelot and Guinevere and Elaine,
the lily maid of Astolat, and of that last glorious battle in which
so many fair knights met their deaths.

As she closed the book, the boy sat silent for an instant as though deeply
stirred with the trumpet call of the old English tale, and then asked the
question that had been weighing on his childish heart:

"Mother, what is it like to die?  Mother, does it hurt?"

Quick tears sprang to her eyes and she fled to the kitchen supposedly
to tend to something on the stove.  She knew it was a question with
deep significance.  She knew it must be answered satisfactorily.

So she leaned for an instant against the kitchen cabinet, her knuckles
 pressed white against the smooth surface, and breathed a hurried
 prayer that the Lord would keep her from breaking down
before the boy and would tell her how to answer him.

And the Lord did tell her.  Immediately she knew how to explain it to him.

"Kenneth," she said as she returned to the next room, "you remember when
you were a tiny boy how you used to play so hard all day that when night
came you would be too tired even to undress, and you would tumble into
mother's bed and fall asleep?  That was not your bed...it was not where
you belonged.  And you stayed there only a little while.

In the morning, much to your surprise, you would wake up and find yourself
in your own bed in your own room.  You were there because someone had
loved you and taken care of you.  Your father had come-with big strong
arms- and carried you away.  Kenneth, death is just like that.  We just
wake up some morning to find ourselves in the other room- our own
room where we belong-because the Lord Jesus loved us."

The lad's shining, trusting face looking up into hers told her that the
point had gone home and that there would be no more fear...only
love and trust in his little heart as he went to meet the Father in Heaven."

After Reverend Marshall had finished the service at Annapolis and he
and his wife, Catherine were driving back home to Washington DC
 that afternoon, the program they were listening to on the car radio
 was suddenly cut off.  Then came the startling news:

"Ladies and Gentlemen.  Stand by for an important announcement. This
morning the United States Naval Base at Pearl Harbor was bombed..."

"Within a month many of the boys to whom Peter Marshall had just
preached would go down to hero's graves in strange waters. Soon
 all of them would be exposed to the risks and dangers of war
 and Peter Marshall, under God's direction, that very morning
offered them the defining metaphor about the reality of eternal life."

The Ark Of The Covenant Returns To Jerusalem!

The gracious host of Israel My Channel continues his presentation on the
life of King David of Israel and explores one of the greatest mysteries of
all time-the location of the lost Ark of the Covenant.

While there has been much speculation over the centuries as to the location of the Ark,
 with some camps saying it was taken to Ethiopia, I have long believed this most holy
object is a lot closer to home- hidden somewhere beneath the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.

Saturday Poetry Corner: Abide In Me, O Lord

"I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.
The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me
and has given Himself up for me."

 Abide in me,

O Lord, and I in Thee,

From this good hour, oh,

Leave me nevermore;

Then shall the discord cease,

The wound be healed,

The lifelong bleeding

Of the soul be o'er.

Abide in me;

O'ershadow by Thy love

Each half formed purpose

And dark thought of in;

Quench ere it rise

Each selfish, low desire,

And keep my soul as

Thine, calm and divine.

As some rare perfume

In a vase of clay,

Pervades it with

A fragrance not its own,

So, when Thou dwellest

In a mortal soul,

All Heav'n's own sweetness

Seems around it thrown.

Abide in me;

There have been moments blest

When I have heard Thy voice

And felt Thy power;

Then evil lost its grasp;

And passion, hushed,

Owned the divine

Enchantment of the hour.

These were but seasons

Beautiful and rare;

Abide in me,

And they shall ever be;

Fulfill at once

Thy precept and my prayer,

Come, and abide

In me and I in Thee.

Activate America: The Importance Of A Republic, Not A Democracy!

 Only a few short years ago,  during the Covid-19 crisis, we witnessed how the
overreach of  federal and state governments violated the very principles
on which our Constitutional Republic was founded on.

In this classic episode of Activate America, CEO Art Thompson (1938-2024)
of The John Birch Society, reminds us how Marxist leaders have, and as we
 recently saw in the last election cycle, will continue to work to impose edicts
which have no basis in constitutional law.  Furthermore, understanding the
difference between a democracy (which America is not) and a republic
(which America was founded to be) is imperative for all freedom-
loving Americans in these increasing dark and uncertain times.

Cary Grant's Favorite Meditation

 A Golden Age of Hollywood legend shares his simple
 philosophy on life...and getting older.

Cary Grant
 Born:Archibald Alec Leach
(1904-1986)
English-American actor

Now Lord, you've known me a long time.   You know me better than I know myself.
You know that each day I am growing older and someday may even be very old,
 so meanwhile please keep me from the habit of thinking I must say something
 on every subject and on every occasion.

Release me from trying to straighten out everyone's affairs. Make me thoughtful, but
not moody, helpful but not overbearing. I've a certain amount of knowledge to share;
still it would be very nice to have a few friends who, at the end,
 recognized and forgave the knowledge I lacked.

Keep my tongue free from the recital of endless details. Seal my lips
on my aches and pains: They increase daily and the need to speak of them
 becomes almost a compulsion.  I ask for grace enough to listen to the retelling
 of others' afflictions, and to be helped to endure them with patience.

I would like to have improved memory, but I'll settle for growing humility and
an ability to capitulate when my memory clashes with the memory of others.
Teach me the glorious lesson that on some occasions, I may be mistaken.

 Keep me reasonably kind; I've never aspired to be a saint...
saints must be rather difficult to live with...yet on the other hand,
and embittered old person is a constant burden.

Please give me the ability to see good in unlikely places and
talents in unexpected people. And give me the grace to
tell them so, dear Lord.

I know a little band of friends that calls itself a woman's club.  The avowed
purpose of this club is study, but there is an undercurrent of deeper, truer things
than even culture and self-improvement.

 There is no obligation, and there are no promises; but in forming the club and in
  selecting new members, only those are chosen who are kind-hearted and dependable,
 as well as possessors of a certain degree of intelligence, and a small amount of genius
which is the capacity for careful work.

.  In short, those who are taken into membership are those who will make good friends,
and so they are a little band who are each for all and all for each.  If one needs the
helping hand of comradeship, not one, but all are eager and willing to help, with
financial aid if needed, but more often with a good word or a small act of kindness.

They are getting so in the habit of speaking good words that I expect to see
them all develop into Golden Gossips.  Ever hear of golden gossip? I read of
it some years ago. A woman who was always talking about her friends and
neighbors made it her business to talk of them, in fact, never said anything
but good of them. She was a gossip but it was "golden gossip".

This woman's club seems to be working in the same way and associations of
 friendship and mutual helpfulness are being built up which will last for life.
It is a beautiful thing, and more than ever one is impressed with the idea
that it is a pity there are...

So many gods, so many creeds,
So many paths that wind and wind
When just the art of being kind
Is all the sad world needs.*

"Money is the root of all evil" says the proverb, but I think that proverb maker
only dug down part way around the plant of evil. If he had really gotten to the
root of the matter, I am sure he would have found that root to be selfishness-
just selfishness, pure and simple.

Why all the mad scramble for money?  Why are we all "money-mad Americans"?

It is just for our selfish gratification with things money can buy, from
 world domination to a stick of striped candy-selfishness, just selfishness.

Not long ago I was visiting in a family where there were several children.
The father lost his memorandum book and was inquiring for it. No one
had seen it.  "I wish, he said, "that you children would find it for me
before I come back at noon."  There was silence for a minute, and then
one of the children said: "Why don't you put up a quarter? That'll find it!"

"Well, I will," his father answered and at once the children were all
eagerness to search. It seemed to me such a pity to appeal to a selfish
interest in a home where there should be loving service freely given.

In the blacksmith shop, one hot day last summer, the blacksmith was
sweating over his hot irons when two idle boys sauntered in and over
   to the water bucket. It was empty.

"Ain't yuh got no water?" asked one of the boys.

"Not if the bucket is empty," answered the blacksmith.

Then the man for whom the blacksmith was working spoke up.

"Why don't you go get a bucket of water?" he asked.

"I will for a nickel," said the boy.

"Yes, we'll go for a nickel," agreed the other boy.

"Were you going to pay for your drink?" asked the man innocently, and
the boys looked at him surprised and then slunk away without filling the bucket.

Just an example of selfishness made more contemptible by being so plainly unfair.

Cooperation, helplfulness, and fair dealing are so badly needed in the world,
and if they are not learned as children at home, it is difficult for grownups
to have a working knowledge of them.

So much depends on starting the children right!

Monday Meditation: Jesus, Thy Boundless Love To Me

"But for you who fear My name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing

(Malachi 4:2)

Jesus, Thy boundless love to me,

no thought can reach, no tongue declare;

O knit my thankful heart to Thee,

and reign without a rival there.

Thine wholly, Thine alone, I am;

be Thou my Rod and Staff and Guide.

O grant that nothing in my soul

may dwell, but Thy pure love alone!

O may Thy love possess my whole,

my Joy, my Treasure, and my Crown.

All coldness from my heart remove;

my every act, word, thought, be love.

O Love, how cheering is thy ray!

All pain before Thy presence flies;

care, anguish, sorrow, melt away,

where'er Thy healing beams arise.

O Jesus, nothing may I see,

nothing desire or seek but Thee.

This love unwearied I pursue

and dauntlessly to Thee aspire.

O may Thy love my hope renew,

burn in my soul like heav'nly fire.

And day and night, be all my care

to guard this sacred treasure there.
