Moonlight bathed the sleeping land
With gentle, probing light,
And the breath from speeding horses
Formed great plumes of lacy white.
The runners made sweet music
As they moved in rhythmic beat
To the tune of crunchy, frost-spawned snow
Thrown far by homing feet.
And snuggled under blankets
So cozy warm we'd share
A mystic night of beauty
And scenes beyond compare.
For the sparkling sheen of moonglow
Was a sight that seemed to be
A fairyland of shapes and hues
And endless mystery.
And even now on moonlit nights
I feel my memory turn
To youthful days, to sleighing days;
And once again I yearn
To capture long-lost pleasure
And hear as long ago
The hoof beats and the runners
As they sang in worlds of snow.

"Cause me to hear Your loving-kindness in the morning,
for on You do I lean and in You do I trust.
Cause me to know the way wherein I should walk,
for I lift up my inner self to You.
Deliver me, O Lord, from my enemies;
I flee to You to hide me.
Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God;
let your good Spirit lead me into a level country
and into the land of uprightness.
Save my life, O Lord, for Your name's sake;
in Your righteousness, bring my life out of trouble
and free me from distress.
And in Your mercy and loving kindness, cut off my
enemies and destroy all those who afflict my inner self
for I am Your servant."

Maranatha!
Away in a manger
No crib for a bed
The little Lord Jesus
Laid down His sweet head,
The stars in the sky
Looked down where He lay,
The little Lord Jesus,
Asleep on the hay.
The cattle are lowing,
The Baby awakes,
But little Lord Jesus,
No crying He makes
I love Thee, Lord Jesus,
Look down from the sky
And stay by my cradle
Till morning is nigh.
Be near me, Lord Jesus,
I ask Thee to stay
Close by me forever,
And love me, I pray;
Bless all the dear children
In Thy tender care,
And fit us for Heaven
To live with Thee there.

Another inspirational teaching for believers in these uncertain times
from Dave Hunt (1926-2013) beloved Christian apologist/author
and founder of The Berean Call Ministries.
"For He says to the snow, "Fall on the earth; likewise He speaks to the showers
and to the downpour of His mighty rains. God seals up, stops, brings to a
standstill by severe weather, the hand of every man and now under
His seal, their hands are forced to inactivity, that all men whom
He has made may know his doings, His sovereign power,
and their subjection to it.
(Job 37:6-7)
"And great and important and weighty, we confess, is the hidden truth,
the mystic secret, of godliness. He, God, was made visible in human flesh,
justified, and vindicated in the Holy Spirit, was seen by angels,
preached among the nations, believed on in the world,
and taken up into glory."
(1 Timothy 3:16)
"Peace upon earth the angel sang, Good will unto men the chorus rang."
But that was many, many years ago at the first Christmas time.
We could scarcely hear the angels if they were singing now for the clamor
of disputing and wrangling which is going on where peace is supposed to be.
In our own country there is a gathering into groups with mutterings and threats
of violence, with some bloodshed and danger of more, and there is still time,
but just now when we are thinking of all the blessed meanings of
Christmastide, it becomes much more terrible.
A great deal is said and written about natural, national boundaries and
learned discussions of racial antagonisms as causes of the restlessness and
ill-temper of nations; and there are investigations and commissions and
inquiries to discover what is the matter with the world and to find a remedy.
But the cause of all the unrest and strife is easily found. It is
selfishness, nothing else, selfishness deep in the hearts of the people.
It seems rather impossible that such a small thing as individual
selfishness could cause so much trouble, but my selfishness added to
your selfishness and that added to the selfishness of our neighbors
all over the big round world is not a small thing.
We may have thought that our own greed and striving to take unfair
advantage were not noticed and never would be known, but you and I
and our neighbors make the neighborhood and neighbors make the states
and states make the nations and the nations are the peoples of the world.
No one would deny that the thoughts and actions and spirit of every
person affect his neighborhood, and it is just as plain that the spirit
and temper of the communities are reflected in the state and nation
and influence the whole world.
The nations of Europe are selfishly trying to take advantage of one
another in the settlement of boundaries and territory, and so the
World War is like a fire that has been stopped in its wild advance
only to smolder and break out here and there a little
farther back along the sides.*
At home, in troubles between labor and capital, each is willing
to stop disputes and eager to cure the unrest of the people if it
can be done at the expense of the other party and leave them
undisturbed in their own selfish gains.
Following all the unrest and unreason on down to its real source,
where it lurks in the heart of the people, its roots will be found there
in individual selfishness, in the desire to better one's own condition
at the expense of another by whatever means possible; and this
desire of each person infects groups of people and moves nations.
Here and there one sees a criticism of Christianity because of the
things that have happened and are still going on. "Christian civilization
is a failure," some say. Christianity has not prevented these things;
therefore it is a failure," say others.
But this is a calling of things by the wrong names. It is rather the lack
of Christianity that has brought us where we are. Not a lack of churches
or religious forms but of the real thing in our hearts.
There is no oppression of a group of people but that which has its root
and inception in the hearts of the oppressors. There is no wild lawlessness
and riot and bloodlust of a mob but that which has its place in the hearts
of the persons who are that mob. Just so, if justice and fairness and
kindness fill the minds of a crowd of persons, those things will
be shown in their actions.
So, if we are eager to help in putting the world to rights, our first
duty is to put ourselves right, to overcome our selfishness and be as eager
that others shall be treated fairly as we are that no advantage shall be
taken of ourselves; and to deal justly and have a loving charity and mercy
for others as we wish them to have for us.
Then we may hear the Christmas angels singing in our own hearts,
"Peace upon earth! Good will unto men."
* Many historians judge that the Treaty of Versailles,
ending World War I, so exacerbated poor economic conditions
in Europe that it made World War II almost inevitable.

I know not what the future hath
Of marvel or surprise,
Assured alone that life and death
God's mercy underlies.
And if my heart and flesh are weak
To bear an untried pain,
The bruised reed He will not break,
But strength and sustain.
No offering of my own I have,
Nor works my faith to prove;
I can but give the gifts He gave,
And plead His love for love.
And so beside the silent sea
I wait for muffled oar;
No harm from Him can come to me
On ocean or on shore.
I know not where His islands lift
Their fronded palms in air;
I only know I cannot drift
Beyond His love and care.

This Chinese Christmas carol reminds me of the other night
when I braved frigid temperatures to stand outside and
watch for an occasional ball of fire to streak across
the perfect celestial beauty of God's heaven during
this month's Geminid meteor shower.
The wait was worth it. I saw at least 20 meteors!
Stars of ice, wheel of moonlight bright,
Shine on sheep with silv'ry light;
Humble shepherds chatting circled round,
Sit content on the grassy heights;
Sudden light!
Hark, the angels sing!
Shepherds crouch in awe.
Mid the clouds the angels proclaim:
God's Son is born in Bethlehem.
Dies the song, stars and moon gently fade,
Shepherds leap for very joy;
Leave their quiet flock homeward, quickly fly,
Worship then the Holy Boy,
Wondrous news through streets resounds,
Glad praises fill ev'ry home.
Poor man's Saviour, peasants Friend,
Come today to Bethlehem.
Learned men from far eastern lands
Kneel before the Holy Child,
Bring abundant gifts, rare, luxuriant,
Crowd the age-worn village inn.
Miles on miles had they come to adore,
No distance seemed too far.
Boundless, saving, peaceful love
Now has come to Bethlehem.

All this night bright angels sing
Never was such caroling!
Hark, a voice loudly cries,
"All ye mortals wake and rise!
O'er the earth Rides a Sun,
Shines still bright tho' day is done!"
"Wake, O earth, wake everything!
Wake and hear the joy I bring!
Wake and joy, For this night
Heaven shows each twinkling light,
Angels Pow'rs, All that be,
Wake and joy this Sun to see!"
"Hail, O Sun! O Blessed Light!
Sent into this world by night;
Let Thy rays Shed their pow'rs
Into these dark souls of ours.
God and man We confess:
"Hail! O Sun of Righteousness!"

"The Sun of Righteousness"
Here is a reference to the first and to the second coming of Christ.
God has fixed the day of both. Those who do wickedly, who do not
fear God's anger, shall feel it. It is certainly to be applied to the
day of judgment, when Christ shall be revealed in flaming fire;
to execute judgment on the proud, and all that do wickedly.
In both, Christ is a rejoicing Light to those who serve Him faithfully.
By the Sun of Righteousness we understand Jesus Christ.
Through Him, believers are justified and sanctified and so brought
to see light. His influences render the sinner holy, joyful, and fruitful.
It is applicable to the graces and comforts of the Holy Spirit,
brought into the souls of men.
Christ gave the Spirit to those who are His, to shine in their hearts,
and to be a Comforter to them, a Sun and a Shield. That day which to
the wicked will burn as an oven, will be to the righteous as bright
as the morning. It is what they wait for, more than those that
wait for the morning. Christ came as the Sun, to bring, not
only light to a dark world, but health to a distempered world.
Souls shall increase in knowledge and spiritual strength. Their
growth is as that of calves of the stall, not as the flower of the field,
which is slender and weak and soon withers. The saints ' triumphs
are all owing to God's victories; it is not they that do this,
but God who does it for them.
Behold another day is coming, far more dreadful to all that work
wickedness than any which is gone before. How great then the
happiness of the believer when he goes from the darkness and
misery of this world, to rejoice in the Lord for evermore!
-Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary
"The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ the Messiah be with you all.
Now to Him Who is able to strengthen you in the faith, which is
in accordance with my Gospel, and the preaching concerning
Jesus Christ the Messiah, according to the revelation,
the unveiling of the mystery of the plan of redemption,
which was kept in silence and secret for long ages.
But now disclosed and through the prophetic Scriptures
is made known to all nations, according to the command
of the eternal God, to win them to the obedience to the faith.
To the only wise God be glory forevermore through Jesus Christ!"
(Romans 16:24-27)
"When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds
said to one another, "Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this saying
that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us."
(Luke 2:15)
"Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness,
Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice."
David, the ancient singer, once made stress
Of this command, and clearly he gave voice
To "Give to the Lord the glory of His name."
O men, tonight the cry rings out once more,
As we seek the Child beneath a star's white flame;
As we enter through a stable's open door.
Holy the night-the winter winds are clean,
The fields are tinged with strange celestial light,
The heavens declare His glory-the whole scene
Is one of purity and spotless white.
Worship the Lord in beauty, we are told:
In the beauty of holiness! Dear Lord, we would
Come to Thee, as the ancients came of old,
Giving Thy name the glory, as we should.

I thought of the apostle Paul's warning to his listeners when I read this morning
that the (Dis)Respect For Marriage Act, a totally unnecessary, and very destructive
piece of legislation which will codify, or be used to give legitimacy to the redefinition
of marriage in America, passed again in the House of Representatives this week.
However, I am happy to report that my Congressman Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ),
who had originally voted in favor of the proposed bill this past summer,
changed his mind and voted no on it.
The bill is now headed for the desk of President Joe Biden, who has stated
he will sign it into law, "promptly and "proudly" thus fulfilling the agenda
of his Pro-LGBTQ predecessor Barack Obama, who pledged back in 2008
that he was seeking to fundamentally transform America.
The definition of the word, "fundamental" means, "foundational".
Until recently, America's foundation rested on the Judeo-Christian value
system found within God's Word, the Holy Bible, which is the basis
for the U.S. Constitution, as well as the the time-honored estate of Holy
Matrimony, or traditional marriage between one man and one woman.
This is no longer the case in America. With the passage of this bill into law,
"anything goes" will be the new law of the land in regards to what accounts
for marriage- including incestuous relationships and child brides.
Quaker leader William Penn once said:
"Men must be governed by God or they will be ruled by tyrants."
He was speaking the truth. The most profound truth of the ages.
In our 246 years of existence on this planet, America has come
very far, very fast, and was once considered the greatest nation
on the face of the earth. God has blessed our nation with much
growth and prosperity, but more importantly, with freedom,
which has drawn people from many different parts of the world
to come here and start new lives for themselves and their families.
To those immigrants who arrived from nations where they
had been persecuted for their faith in God, the wonderful
privilege of freedom of religion was the single most
important reason why they chose to come to America.
Today, freedom in America as we know it is in rapid decline.
God's principles have been steadily removed from our government
and educational systems, and replaced with the inferior wisdom
of fallen man and with an increasing antagonism against the
true followers of Jesus Christ.
In every generation since our nation's founding, there have been many
who have professed to be Christians, but very few genuine believers.
The latter group is known as the remnant, or those who center their
lives around taking God at His Word. This is the true meaning of faith.
"You through your commandments, make me wiser than my enemies,
for Your words are ever before me.
I have better understanding and deeper insight than all my teachers,
because Your testimonies are my meditation."
(Psalm 119:98-99)
The apostle Paul told us, "But wicked men and imposters will go
on from bad to worse, deceiving and leading astray others and
being deceived and led astray themselves."
(II Timothy 3:13)
Our faith in Jesus Christ and the finished work of the cross is the
remnant believer's victory over the powers of darkness at work in
the world and in America today.
The spiritual blindness which has enveloped the minds
and hardened the hearts of many of the men and women
serving in our Congress, and in other positions of
authority over us, can be likened to the self-righteous
arrogance of the wise men and sorcerers, magicians of
Pharaoh's court, who were openly hostile towards,
and resisted Moses, and like their sovereign, stood
openly defiant in the sight of the great I AM,
the Almighty God of Israel.
"They have depraved and distorted minds, and are reprobate and
counterfeit and to be rejected as far as the faith is concerned."
(II Timothy 3:8)
However, just as God revealed His invincible purposes in the court
of the stubborn Pharaoh of Egypt, where the serpent from the staff
of Moses' brother, Aaron, swallowed up the ones conjured by
the court sorcerers, the plans and purposes of God remain
in force and unhindered, despite the schemes of the deceitful
workers of unrighteousness operating within the
corrupted halls of power in Washington DC.
These obstinate members of our Congress, who have openly supported
this bill, have not only broken the oath they took when entering public
office, which is to defend and uphold the United States Constitution, but,
will now live with the consequences resulting from their own actions.
"...and I will gain honor and glory over Pharaoh and all his hosts,
and the Egyptians shall know that I AM the Lord. And they did so."
(Exodus 14:4)
