Raised are the dripping oars,
Silent the boat! the lake,
Lovely and soft as a dream,
Swims in the sheen of the moon.

Canoe In Moonlight
Frank Robert Harper
This month's full moon is called the Full Strawberry Moon.
The eastern Algonquin Indian tribes in America knew at the rising
of this moon the wild strawberries growing in the meadows
and woodlands would be ripe and ready for picking.
An old European name for this Moon is the Full Honey or Mead Moon,
a time when farmers and bee keepers created mead, a fermented drink
made with honey and other fruits and spices, or with hops.
made with honey and other fruits and spices, or with hops.
As much as I love watching the rising of the full moon each month,
the weather forecast is calling for heavy rains and thunderstorms to come
rolling through my area tonight so it might be a very late viewing
or perhaps none at all. I guess we'll just have to wait and see!
On a more cheery note, here is a classic strawberry dessert,
so easy to make and so delicious it is guaranteed to soothe
any disappointed moon gazers tonight! Enjoy!
