Fun Facts About This Month's Full Moon:

The moon will be completely full on Thanksgiving and will crest
at 12:39 am Friday November 23rd.

Many Algonquin Indian tribes marked this time to set traps for
beavers in streams and rivers before the freezing weather to ensure
a supply of warm furs for the winter ahead.  The early colonists in
America probably learned how to set traps to catch the beavers
from the Indians tribes who were friendly to the newcomers.
In the same tradition of friendship, the Indians taught the colonists
how to plant and grow their crops in order to produce enough
food to sustain them through the brutally cold winters in the Northeast.

The first Thanksgiving would bring the two peoples together for
a time of mutual fellowship, and feasting! on wild game meat
like deer and turkeys, fish caught from both the ocean and fresh water
streams and rivers, as well as the bounty of the fall harvest season,
featuring dishes of stewed apples and wild berries,
roasted corn, pumpkins, squash, and sweet potatoes.
And, according to some historical accounts, popcorn!

This moon is known by other American Indian tribes as the  Frost Moon,
Snow Moon, the Trading Moon, and the Freezing Frost Moon.

The name for November's full moon in China is "The White Moon".

"And God made the two great lights-the greater light, the sun,
to rule the day and the lesser light, the moon, to rule the night.
He also made the stars.  And God set them in the expanse of
the heavens to give light upon the earth."
Genesis 1:16-17
