On My Mind: America Needs Jesus

This week New Jersey became the second state in the union after
California to mandate that LGBTQ history be taught in the public
schools here.  The new legislation is directing state's boards of
education to "provide instruction on the political, economic,
and social contributions of persons with disabilities and lesbian, gay,
bisexual, and transgender people in an appropriate place in
the curriculum of middle and high school students."

What does someone's sexual orientation have to do with
their contributions to American society and history?

And why are people with disabilities being lumped in with
the LGBTQ curriculum?

Many people with disabilities have contributed positively to
American society and history over the years.  Their sexual
lifestyle certainly did not figure into whatever contributions
they made, nor was it elevated by scheming politicians
and given a legally protected civil rights status.

Homosexuality is a sin and condemned by God in the Bible.
Under Old Testament law, before the age of grace, it was
considered a capital offense punishable by death.

"If a man lies with a male as if he were a woman,
both men have committed an offense, something perverse,
unnatural, abhorrent, and detestable; they shall surely be
put to death; their blood shall be upon them."
Leviticus 20:13

Adultery is also a chosen lifestyle condemned by God.
 "You shall not commit adultery."
Exodus 20:14

I have yet to see any politically-motivated legislation
giving those who regularly cheat on their spouses or
significant others special civil rights in our society.

Although in this day and age, at least in
western civilization, we no longer put men
and women to death for committing acts of
homosexuality or adultery, the Word which
God speaks in regards to sin remains unchanged.

"For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of
power; it is sharper than any two-edged sword,
penetrating to the dividing line of the breath of
life, (soul) and the immortal spirit, and of the
joints and marrow of the deepest parts of
our nature, exposing and sifting and analyzing
and judging the very thoughts
and purposes of the heart."
Hebrews 4:12

God will never compromise with sin
committed by human beings, whom
He created to bear His likeness and image.
And that is simply because He loves us.

All of mankind was put under the curse of rebellion
and subsequently death, through the disobedience of Adam.
How fortunate we are that God so loved this world
that He sent His only begotten Son to give us
not only a reprieve from the sentence of death,
but reconciliation with Him through the cross.

I can still remember a church service I attended one
Sunday about 20 years ago. The guest celebrant that day
was a young priest from the West Indies.
Speaking before the congregation, he told his listeners,
"Satan attacks first in the womb."

He was right.  The enemy has convinced many people that
life does not begin at conception.  He has convinced many people
that abortion is an easy solution to their problems.  In the same way,
Satan has convinced both men and women that what is
clearly an unnatural relationship with the same sex is natural.
Satan is a master of deception.  His ultimate goal is to
destroy human souls primarily through unchecked emotions-
fear, anger, resentment, but most especially, pride.

"He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in
truth because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a falsehood,
he speaks what is natural to him, for he is a liar and the father
of lies and of all that is false."
John 8:44

The sure-fire cure for the plague of rebellion in the hearts of men and women
in America is the Lord Jesus Christ.  And yet, He has been outlawed
from the public schools and other institutions in our nation today.

This is because He truly is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

Only Jesus can heal the sin sickness within human hearts.
We who love Him need to take the risk of proclaiming
His love and mercy to the lost and hurting of this world.

If we truly love people and want to see them set free from sin
and accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior,  the message we bring
cannot be judgmental nor one of coercion or force.
Furthermore, the Bible should never be used to condemn, only to
to admonish, or correct immoral behavior with the truth of God's Word.
Sometimes, despite our best efforts, we fail to reach through
the twisted emotions lodged within someone's heart.  Sometimes,
all we can do is pray for someone to have a change of heart.
Remember that with God, all things are possible.

"In the beginning, before all time, was the Word,
Christ, and the Word was with God, and the Word
was God Himself.  He was present originally with God.
All things were made and came into existence through Him;
and without Him was not even one thing made that
has come into being.  In Him was Life and the Life
was the Light of men. And the Light shines on in
the darkness, for the darkness has never
overpowered it, and is not receptive to it."
(John 1:1-5)
