"Well, it's a marvelous night for a moondance,
With the stars up above in your eyes
A fantabulous night to make romance
'Neath the cover of October skies..."
-Van Morrison

Tonight the Full Hunter's Moon will rise after sundown and much
like September's Harvest Moon will appear larger and more orange
in color-sort of like the Great Pumpkin- rising out of the pumpkin patch!

Perfect for the month of October!
This full moon came to be called the Hunter's Moon because of the
tradition of hunting wild game in the fall. In my area, there is
both a deer and wild duck season. Deer can often be seen in empty
farmers' fields and orchards where they eat left over scraps of
harvested crops or munch on windfall apples.

According to the Old Farmer's Almanac, the oldest reference to
the "Hunter's Moon" comes from the 1710 edition of the Oxford
English Dictionary. Other sources suggest that this month's
full moon was called the "Sanguine" or "Blood Moon"
due to it's association with blood from hunting
or perhaps from the changing of the leaves.
