Saturday Poetry Corner: The Rhodora On Being Asked, Whence Is The Flower?

"He has made everything beautiful in its time.

The Rhodora is a fragrant common springtime plant which grows in the

wetlands of New England.  This beautiful wildflower can also be found in 

the bogs and swamps of the Atlantic Coastal Pine Barrens in New Jersey.

In May, when the sea-winds pierced our solitudes,

I found the fresh Rhodora in the woods,

Spreading its leafless blooms in a damp nook,

To please the desert and the sluggish brook.

The purple petals, fallen in the pool,

Made the black water with their beauty gay;

Here might the red-bird come his plumes to cool,

And court the flower that cheapens his array.

Rhodora! if the sages ask thee why

This charm is wasted on the earth and sky,

Tell them, dear, that if eyes were made for seeing,

Then Beauty is its own excuse for being:

Why thou wert there, O rival of the rose!

I never thought to ask, I never knew;

"Signs" by the Canadian rock group, Five Man Electrical Band,
was released in May, 1971. The song reached the #3 slot on
the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and ranked as the 24th
 most popular song of that year.

Over a century ago, on October 13, 1917 a bizarre event occurred in the skies
 over the small village of Fatima, Portugal.  A shining female entity, who many
came to believe was the Virgin Mary, and who had been appearing to
three peasant children there, told them that a miracle would
occur on that date.  It has since become known as,
"The Miracle of the Sun".

But was it really the sun spinning wildly in the sky over Fatima that day, as
 witnessed by the crowd of over 70,000 spectators gathered there-or something else?

In light of a renewed interest in what is being called the fulfillment of 
 the horrifying, "Third Prophecy of Fatima"  said to come to pass in 2024,
Christian author and supernatural researcher L.A. Marzulli recounts his trip to
 Portugal (several years ago) to investigate this fantastic early 20th century event,
and to discuss the subsequent documentary he made about Fatima with
Prophecy Watchers host Gary Stearman.   Included in the film are original,
untouched photographs taken in Fatima on that day in 1917,
revealing what L.A. claims has been deliberately
 kept hidden from the world for over 100 years!
