Science Saturday: The Enemy Wind/Target Tornado

A multi-vortex EF-3 tornado with windspeeds of 150 miles an hour recently
 roared through the town of
Mullica Hill in Gloucester County, New Jersey
as well as several surrounding communities, leaving in its wake
a trail of wrecked homes, farms, and businesses.

The storm was part of the remnants of Hurricane Ida, which
recently ravaged the coasts of Louisiana and Mississippi
with destructive winds, heavy rains, and terrible flooding.

While we have experienced bad windstorms and even
 small tornadoes
here in southern New Jersey in the past, this
large violent whirlwind caught many people off guard in my area.

I thank Almighty God for the advances of technology in recent
years, which warned citizens in time to take shelter, but, far more
importantly, I am thankful the no one in our town or the
surrounding areas were seriously injured or killed in this storm.

In these two classic presentations from The Weather Channel
we get an in-depth look at these most violent winds on earth
and the scientists and storm chasers who study them.
