Full Flower Moon & Total Lunar Eclipse

This month's Full Flower Moon will not only be a spectacular celestial event, but, is
to coincide with a total Lunar Eclipse which will be visible for most of North America.
According to the folks over at the Old Farmer's Almanac, the Full Flower Moon
will reach peak illumination at 12:15 A.M. (EDT) on Monday May 16th.

May's Full Moon will be the first of four Supermoons this year.
A Supermoon occurs when the Moon is at least 90% of perigee,
or to the point in the Moon's orbit where it is closest to the earth.

May's Full Flower Moon is the time when many different flowers begin
to bloom across North America and other nations in the western hemisphere.

In the language and traditions of my Cherokee ancestors, "A-ni-s-gy-ti"
or the fifth month of the year is the "Month of the Planting Moon".

Like many Native American cultures, the Cherokee people
adopted a unique interdependent farming system,
commonly known as "The Three Sisters"  which is
a combination of corn, squash or pumpkins,
and beans grown together in a garden.

When these essential crops are grown together, they act
as a support system to help one another to flourish; the
sturdy corn stalks for the beans to climb on so they do not
become entangled with the sprawling squash vines on the
ground, while the beans add important nitrogen to the soil,
and provide support for the corn stalks, especially
during summertime thunderstorms with gusty winds.

Now about the total Lunar Eclipse...

A Lunar Eclipse occurs when Earth stands directly between the Moon and the Sun,
which results in Earth casting its shadow on the Moon. During a total Lunar Eclipse,
when the Moon is fully obscured by Earth's shadow, the Moon will take on a
deep reddish color.  This is where the term, "Blood Moon" comes from. The
Eclipse will begin tonight around 9:31 P.M. (EDT) when the Moon enters the
outer edge of the Earth's shadow, and will reach its peak at 12:11 A.M. (EDT)
on Monday, May 16th.  According to the Old Farmer's Almanac, this will be
the best time for viewing the total Lunar Eclipse!

🌕I hope the skies are clear where you're at tonight!🌕
