Sixty one years ago this week, one of the greatest voices of all time was
silenced forever when 30 year old country music singer Patsy Cline lost her life
in a plane crash while returning home from a benefit performance in Kansas City.
Patsy was and still is today the undisputed Empress of Country Music.
I first discovered her while looking at my Uncle Kenny and Aunt Camille's
record album collection as a kid. Later on, I read about her close friendship
with another country music legend, Loretta Lynn, in the book, and
later watching the Oscar-nominated movie, "Coal Miner's Daughter".
Loretta named one of her identical twin daughters after Patsy.
Actress Beverly DeAngelo gave a memorable performance in the movie
as the sassy, fun-loving Patsy and sang all of her classic hits magnificently!
Actress Sissy Spacek played Loretta Lynn and also sang Loretta's and Patsy's
songs in the movie. She won the Academy Award for Best Actress.
Many female country music artists have been inspired by Patsy
and over the years have covered her greatest romantic ballads
like, "Crazy" "She's Got You" and "Sweet Dreams".
But, as I always say, there was only one Patsy.
