I am deeply concerned over the recently proposed bill submitted to Congress last month by Democrat Representative Sheila Jackson-Lee of Texas, which is specifically designed to eradicate the Second Amendment rights of all responsible, law-abiding American gun owners.
The Sabika Sheikh Firearm Licensing and Registration Act (H.R.127) would implement draconian measures against law-abiding American citizens by establishing a federal firearms registration system which will be accessible to federal, state, and local government authorities. This also includes the military, as well as the general public, with published lists of the names and addresses of gun owners provided by the media.
Gun owners would have to report to the government where they purchased their guns, when they were purchased, and where they are being stored within their homes and businesses. Not only would they be required to buy a government license to own a gun, but they would be mandated to undergo a psychological evaluation conducted by a government-appointed psychologist, to determine whether they are "mentally efficient" enough to own a firearm.
This bill was named for a Pakistani exchange student named Sabika Sheikh, who was killed in a school shooting in Texas in May, 2018. While I am sorry that this young woman lost her life in the attack, it seems to me that Representative Jackson-Lee, is only exploiting this tragedy for political purposes, by seeking retaliation against law-abiding gun owners in this nation, and in particular, those who supported and voted for Donald Trump in the last election, with this proposed legislation.
Over the past year, the entire world witnessed protesters swarming in the streets of American cities. Many of these protesters openly carried assault weapons and no one intervened to stop them in their mayhem. Every single day, the inner cities of America are rife with violence committed by criminals using illegally purchased or stolen guns. This proposed bill is just an excuse to destroy the Second Amendment, which Democrats like Jackson Lee are counting on, and which President Trump warned us would happen under a Biden Administration.
I urge everyone reading this to please call or e-mail your state representatives regarding the Sabika Sheikh Firearm Licensing and Registration Act (H.R.127) as soon as possible. And let up hope and pray that members of Congress who still respect and uphold the rights of the American people and the US Constitution will move quickly to defeat it.
