Saturday Night At The Movies: Savannah Smiles

I recently re-discovered this heartwarming story of a lonely little
rich girl who meets up with two bumbling criminals after she
stows away in the backseat of their car.

"Savannah Smiles"
(1982)

Six year old Savannah Driscoll (Brigitte Anderson) is the neglected daughter
of a wealthy Salt Lake City couple who decides to run away from home.
At a local amusement park, Savannah slips away during a game of
hide-and-seek and sneaks into the back seat of the recently stolen,
beat up old car.  Meanwhile, the two convicts are in the park
where they conspire to steal an elderly woman's purse.

Although their initial meeting with the little girl is a bit awkward,
the two men decide to drop out of sight and take Savannah with them.

While hiding out in an abandoned house,  Alvin "Alvie" Gibbs and Boots
"Bootsie" McGaffee,  soon discover that Savannah's politically
ambitious father and worried mother have posted
a $100,000 reward for her safe return.

Although Alvie and Bootsie believe their ship has finally come in, they wonder how they
can return Savannah and still collect the reward money without being recognized
by the authorities and sent back to prison.  However, both men find themselves
increasingly attached to Savannah, while she finds in them the tender
loving care she has been craving from her inattentive parents.

But no "spoiler alerts" here!

I hope you will get a chance to watch this wonderful movie!
