The Elm Tree Fairy
A touch of whimsy and the wonders of
the imagination on this last day of August....
Soft and brown in Winter-time,
Dark and green in Summer's prime,
All their leaves a yellow haze
in Autumn's pleasant days...
See the lines of Elm trees standing
Keeping watch through all the land
Over lanes, and crops, and cows,
And the fields where Dobbin ploughs.
All day long with listening ears
Sits the Elm Tree Elf and hears
Distant bell, and bleat, and bark,
Whistling boy and singing lark.
Often on the topmost boughs
Many a rook has build a house;
Evening comes, and overhead,
Cawing, home they fly to bed.

Hurricane Ida Makes Landfall In Louisiana
With sustained winds of 150 miles per hour and gusts
up to 184 miles an hour, Hurricane Ida made landfall earlier
this afternoon in southern Louisiana. Extreme winds
battered the community of Matthews, Louisiana
as the storm's eye wall came ashore.
May God be with the people in the path of this dangerous storm!
Redeemed By The Blood
John saw upon Patmos,
A vision so bright;
The saints from all nations
In garments of light,
With palms and rejoicing
Before the white throne,
They gave all the glory
To Jesus alone.
Redeemed by the blood;
Redeemed by the blood;
Arrayed in white garments
Redeemed by the blood.
Salvation and honor
And wisdom and might
And glory and blessing,
Their voices unite,
Ascribing to Jesus,
The Lamb that was slain,
Soon coming in glory,
Forever to reign.
Redeemed by the blood;
Redeemed by the blood;
Arrayed in white garments
Redeemed by the blood.
A few from the honored,
And noble by birth,
The most had been humble
Or outcasts on earth;
Transformed by the Spirit,
Their anthems they bring,
And adoring their Savior,
United they sing.
Redeemed by the blood;
Redeemed by the blood;
Arrayed in white garments
Redeemed by the blood.
From great tribulation
They hither repair;
And victors forever,
God's glory they share;
From sword and from scaffold,
From dungeon and stake,
Naught ever could move them
Their Lord to forsake.
Redeemed by the blood;
Redeemed by the blood;
Arrayed in white garments
Redeemed by the blood.
For this they are honored,
And serve day and night,
And nearest the throne they
Rejoice in His light;
They hunger no more,
By the Lamb they are fed;
By Him to the fountain
Or waters are led.
Redeemed by the blood;
Redeemed by the blood;
Arrayed in white garments
Redeemed by the blood.
Their tears are all banished,
God wipes them away,
Enthroned in His presence
Forever they stay;
What reward and what honor
For service so small!
One hour of such blessing
Repays them for all.
Redeemed by the blood;
Redeemed by the blood;
Arrayed in white garments
Redeemed by the blood.

Simple Faith
Our Father, remove from us the sophistication of our age,
and the skepticism that has come, like frost,
to blight our faith and make it weak.
Nathan Greene
Bring us back to a faith,
that makes us great and strong,
a faith that enables us
to love and to live,
the faith by which we are triumphant,
and the faith by which alone
we can walk with Thee.
We pray for the return of that simple faith,
that old-fashioned trust in God,
that made strong and great
the homes of our ancestors who
built this good land,
and who in building left us our heritage.
In the strong name of Jesus, Our Lord,
we make this prayer.
Amen.

The Days Of Long Ago: When Grandma Pioneered
Grandma was minding the baby.
"Oh yes, she is sweet," she said, "but she is no rarity to me.
You see there were ten of us at home, and I was the oldest
save one, and that a boy. Seems like I've always
had a baby to take care of."
I use to go help the neighbors at times; and there was always
a new baby, for women in them days didn't hire help
unless they were down sick.
the grandchildren. No, indeed! Babies are no rarity to me!
I was just a child myself when father and mother drove an ox team into
the Ozarks. Father stopped the wagon in the thick woods by the big
road, cut down some trees, and made a rough log cabin.
But mother never liked the house there;
father was away so much, and she didn't like to stay
alone with the young ones so near the road.

by the spring out of sight, and we lived there.
hunted the cows at night, we thought nothing of seeing droves of them.
Snakes were thick too, and not so pleasant to meet; but none of us ever
got bit, though we went barefoot all summer and until freezing weather.
but later we had 'boughten' shoes. Then the men of the settlement
would drive their oxen teams south into the pineries in the fall and
haul in logs to the mills. When they hauled a certain number of loads,
they were paid with a load of logs for themselves.

didn't have time to be. We raised wheat and corn for our bread; hogs
ran loose in the woods and, with venison and wild turkey, made our meat;
we kept some sheep for the wool, and we raised cotton.
the seeds. We carded the cotton and wool and then spun them into yarn and
thread and wove them into cloth; we made our own blankets and coverlets
and all the cloth we used, even our dresses.

hear the wheel awhirring and the loom at work. We cooked in the fireplace
too, and I was sixteen years old before I even saw a cookstove.
The wheat was spread on poles with an old blanket under them to catch the
grain as it dropped through; and we flailed it out with hickory poles, then
blew the dust out in the wind, and it was ready to take to the mill.
and we were careful with them. When they got calico into the country, it cost
25 cents a yard, and if we had a calico dress we wore it for very best.
When we took it off, we brushed off all the dust, turned it,
folded it, and laid it carefully away.
beginning the first Monday in September, but that was molasses-making,
potato-digging, corn-picking time, and we older children had to stay home
and do the work. The little ones went, and by the time they were older,
we had things in better shape so they got lots more learning.
But it was too late for us.

They have so much they are spoiled, yet every cent they get they must

Saturday Poetry Corner: Sweet Grass Range
Come sell your pony, cowboy...
Sell your pony to me;
Braided bridle and your puncher saddle,
And spend your money free.
"If I should sell my pony,
And ride the range no more,
Nail up my hat and my silver spurs
Above my shanty door;
"And let my door stand open wide
To the snow and the rain and sun;
And bury me under the green sweetgrass
Where you hear the river run."
As I came down the sweetgrass range
And by the cabin door,
I heard a singing in the early dusk
Along the river shore;
I heard a singing to the early stars,
And the tune of a pony's feet.
The joy of the riding singer
I never shall forget.

For the glory of the skies,

This our hymn of grateful praise.

Fairy places, fairy things,
Fairy woods where the wild bee wings,
Tiny trees for tiny dames-
These must all be fairy names!
Tiny woods below whose boughs
Shady fairies weave a house;

Where the braver fairies climb!
Fair are grown-up people's trees,
But the fairest woods are these;
Where if I were not so tall,
I should live for good and all.

Analysis Behind The News: Afghanistan's Another Pawn
"Recent new has been awash with reporting of the failed draw-down
and defeat of the Afghanistan war, with many in government and the media
pointing fingers. With all the factions in the war, and that it's been the
longest war in American history, it's easy to get lost in all the noise.
However, we'll point out just how simple this subject really is, in today's
episode of Analysis Behind The New, where we provide the perspective
and the plan to help restore American liberty and independence."

Be Still My Soul
"Be still and know that I am God."
Psalm 46: 10
Be still my soul; the Lord is on thy side;
Bear patiently the cross of grief and pain;
Leave to thy God to order and provide;
In every change He faithful will remain.
Be still my soul; thy best thy heavenly Friend
Through thorny ways leads to a joyful end.
Be still my soul; thy God doth undertake
To guide the future as He has the past.
Thy hope, thy confidence let nothing shake;
All now mysterious shall be bright at last.
Be still my soul; the waves and winds still know
His voice who ruled them while He dwelt below.
Be still my soul; the hour is hastening on
When we shall be forever with the Lord,
When disappointment, grief, and fear are gone,
Sorrow forgot, love's purest joys restored.
Be still my soul; when change and tears are past,
All safe and blessed we shall meet at last.
Be still, my soul; begin the song of praise
On earth, believing, to Thy Lord on high;
Acknowledge Him in all thy words and ways,
So shall He view thee with a well pleased eye.
Be still, my soul; the sun of life divine
Through passing clouds,
Shall but more brightly shine.
Amen.

Full Sturgeon Moon Tonight
August's full moon is called the Sturgeon Moon due to the abundance of these
fish in streams and lakes in the northern hemisphere at this time of the year.
Sturgeon is actually a common name for some 27 species of fish
belonging to the family Acipenseridae. They are found in lakes and
streams and on the coastlines of many countries around the world.
The earliest sturgeon date back to the Late Cretaceous period and
are said to descend from an earlier species of fish dating back
to the Triassic period some 245 to 208 million years ago.
This month's moon is also being called a rare Blue Moon,
not due to any unusual change in color, but because it
will be the fourth full moon of the summer season
when there are usually only three.
Hope the moon is visible where you are tonight!

Remembering "The Storyteller" Tom T. Hall (1936-2021)
From the golden age of classic American country western music,
Tom T. Hall, who died yesterday at his home in Franklin, Tennessee
at the age of 85, rose to fame as a songwriter, singer, instrumentalist,
novelist, and short story writer.
But he will be best remembered as "The Storyteller"
a singing narrator of traditional country ballads.
I remember when I was going to high school I would
often listen to a country music station on my clock

Tom T. Hall's beautiful "I Love" has always been
one of my favorite songs to dream by.
God bless you, Mr. Hall. May you rest in peace.

By Faith In Christ I Walk With God
This post is dedicated to my Christian brothers and sisters
in Afghanistan. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Many people in America are praying for you.
May the Lord be your Strength and your Shield.
May you find shelter and protection in
the shadow of His wings.
Love & Blessings to all.
By faith in Christ I walk with God,
With Heav'n my journey's end in view;
Supported by His staff and rod,
My road is safe, and pleasant too.
I travel through a desert wide
Where many round me blindly stray;
But He vouchsafes to be my guide,
And will not let me miss my way.
Though snares and dangers throng my path,
And earth and hell my course withstand;
I triumph over all by faith,
Guarded by His almighty hand.
The wilderness affords no food
But God for my support prepares;
Provides me every needful good
And frees my soul from wants and cares.
With Him sweet converse I maintain,
Great as He is I dare be free;
I tell Him all my grief and pain,
And He reveals His love to me.
Some cordial from His Word He brings
Whene'er my feeble spirit faints;
At once my soul revives and sings,
And yields no more to sad complaints.
I pity all that worldlings talk
Of pleasures that will quickly end;
Be this my choice, O Lord, to walk
With Thee, my Guide, my Guard, my Friend.

John Newton
(1725-1807)
English clergyman & hymn writer
His most famous song was "Amazing Grace"
Amir Tsarfati: The Spirit And The Bride Say, "Come!"
"Come! One word, called out by the Spirit and the bride in Revelation 22:17,
born out of a desire for Jesus Christ to return for His church. But who are the
Spirit and the bride, and what are their roles in this time of the Lord's tarrying?
In his video, "The Spirit and the Bride Say, "Come!" Amir Tsarfati not only
answers these questions, but he addresses the great dilemma of balancing
our hope for the Lord's return against the desire for His delay so that
more souls can be saved. He also addresses the times and the seasons
as we see the "Time of the Gentiles" drawing to a close.
The Lord's return is imminent, and together
with the Spirit we cry out, "Come!"
