"What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit
which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body,
and in your spirit, which are God's."
(1 Corinthians 6:19-20)
Come, O Thou God of grace,
Dwell in this holy place,
E'en now descend!
This temple is reared to Thee,
O may it ever be
Filled with Thy majesty,
Till time shall end!
Be in each song of praise
Which here Thy people raise
With hearts a-flame!
Let every anthem rise
Like incense to the skies
A joyful sacrifice,
To Thy blest Name!
Speak, O eternal Lord,
Out of Thy living Word,
O give success!
Do Thou the truth impart
Unto each waiting heart;
Source of all strength Thou art;
Thy gospel bless!
To the great One in Three
Glory and praise be
In love now given!
Glad songs to Thee we sing,
Glad hearts to Thee we bring,
Till we our God and King
Shall praise in heaven!

The Story Behind The Song
"Just a little thread" in the tapestry of America's Christian Roots
This song was written for the dedication of the Park Place Methodist
Episcopal Church in Richmond, Virginia in 1886 by William E. Evans,
who was pastor there at the time.
The music for this piece is based on a hymn composed in 1769
and is credited to Italian violinist Felice de Giardini (1716-1796).
