"And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the Lord
appeared to Abram and said unto him, "I am El Shaddai,
walk before Me and be thou perfect. And I will make My
covenant between Me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.
(Genesis 17: 1-2)
El Shaddai means "Almighty God". The origins of this title are
quite interesting. "El" signifies the "Strong One". The word,
"Shaddai" is formed from one Hebrew word, "shad" or "breast"
or " breasted". God is seen as "Shaddai" because He is the
Nourisher and Strength-giver of the believer, just like a nursing
mother provides nourishment, strength, and comfort to her baby.
