"For we walk by faith, not by sight."
(2 Corinthians 5:7)
This hauntingly beautiful Christmas song not only reminds me of
the real Reason for the Season, but, of the remarkable faith of
Mary, chosen to be the mother of the Messiah. We can all
be thankful of her response to the angelic messenger:
"Be it done to me according to Thy will."
In the Galilean culture of Mary's day, unwed mothers were
often stoned to death for adultery. This is the reason why
her husband-to-be, Joseph, sought to quietly break off
their engagement. Then, of course, the Lord intervened
and told him not to be afraid to take Mary as his wife
for she was carrying His Son.
The story of the birth of Christ not only reveals God's
great love for mankind, but the deep and abiding faith
of Mary and Joseph in fulfilling His ultimate plan.
