Imagine being strapped to a table with your head wrapped like a cocoon
and told you must hold absolutely still for over 15 minutes. In addition to
loud and strange vibrations emitting through the cocoon around my head,
a hospital MRI technician played music over a loud speaker to help
me remain calm. This is what happened to me on the day
I was admitted to the hospital after suffering a stroke.
The MRI not only revealed compelling evidence of a TIA (Transient
Ischemic Attack) on the left side of my brain, but, I once more
became acquainted with the upbeat lyrics of a quirky, one-hit
wonder song that I had not heard in a long time.
Released in August, 1983 by American recording artist Matthew Wilder,
"Break My Stride" became a major hit worldwide for him late that year.
The song reached number five on the US Billboard Hot 100 in January and
February, 1984 and remained at the number 2 position on the US Cash Box
chart for two weeks in early February, 1984.
