"They promised it was safe...They lied to me."
Like too many American women who have taken the abortion drug, mifepristone,
Elizabeth Gillette did not know of the serious, life-threatening consequences
which she would later experience.
In a recent article by editorial director and senior writer Suzanne Bowdey for
The Washington Stand, Gillette claims, "They promised it was safe." She then
went on to recount what happened to her after she took the abortion pill.
"I was completely alone. I didn't have a nurse. I didn't have a doctor. I had to shut
my boyfriend out of the bathroom because there was so much blood."
Fearful that she was going to die, Elizabeth Gillette was unprepared for what
happened to her next. "The worst part was that nobody told me I would pass
the entire amniotic sac whole...that I would hold the body of my dead baby.
That I would see his eyes and his fingers. They told me I would just see
clotting and a heavy period blood. They lied to me."
Yes, Elizabeth, they lied to you. Just like they are lying to thousands of other
women across America who have been falsely led to believe that abortion, whether
performed inside a clinic or at home by taking a pill is a "quick fix" solution
to an unplanned pregnancy.
"Nobody warned me of the drugs' side effects," she says. There was no talk of
follow-up with the doctor-not even a phone appointment. After I was given the
drugs and they got my money, my case was closed."
Like a door slammed in her face.
But, what if Elizabeth Gillette had been offered an alternative choice?
What if she and the thousands of women like her, whose lives have been
devastated through the physical, mental, and spiritual pain and suffering
of abortion or worse, have died from using mifepristone, had been given
the opportunity to receive compassionate and non-judgmental counseling
by people who truly love and care about them? What if she had been offered
excellent prenatal healthcare (including seeing her baby's beating heart on
the screen of a high-tech ultrasound machine) in a crisis pregnancy
center whose mission is based on sound biblical principles?
Furthermore, during his first term, President Trump declared to a crowd of
pro-life supporters that he too, was a defender of the unborn. Yet, instead of
taking quick and decisive action to reverse former President Biden's policies
of no-holds-bar abortion pill distribution, without allowing for mifepristone
to be thoroughly tested, the FDA has yet to conduct a study on this drug,
which they know is killing both women and children, leaving pro-life
lawmakers on Capitol Hill both angry and disgusted.
While pushing hard on FDA Commissioner Marty Makary concerning the
delay of the study, a frustrated Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) told reporters,
"I think this safety study is a dead end. I just think that the FDA is not
serious about it. I don't think that they're proceeding with any
sense of urgency whatsoever."
Meanwhile in an interview with Politico in June of last year, Makary stated:
"I have no preconceived plans to make any changes to the mifepristone policies."
Commissioner Makary's comment was as cold as the surgery room of an abortion clinic.
It is obvious he believes in profit over pain and suffering, and apparently,
so does the Trump Administration, which is still allowing blue states to continue
mailing abortion pills into pro-life states without penalty.
Which leads me to another exasperating irony in the anti-life,
pro-death culture of America today.
If I run short of the syringes I use to inject life-sustaining insulin into my body
I have been told I have to wait, sometimes for days, until the insurance company
approves the order for a refill. This poses a serious dilemma to anyone who is
taking daily shots of insulin. Furthermore, state laws prohibit the direct sale
of insulin syringes (e.g. Amazon) here in New Jersey.
And yet, according to the website, samedayabortionpills.com, you can
order life-threatening abortion pills online and pick them up at your
local CVS or Walgreens, or, have them delivered "discreetly" via the
mail, thanks to New Jersey's "supportive reproductive health laws"
with no middle man insurance provider to wrangle with.
They even have licensed "telehealth providers" in order to help
the purchaser to "complete an at-home medical abortion quickly."
Abortion is America's greatest national sin. I often wonder how
much longer God will be patient before judgment comes on our land,
if it is not already here. Whenever Israel rebelled against God in
the Bible, He withdrew from the land, and with Him went
His provision, but, more importantly, His protection.
I pray that God will continue to have mercy on America.
For You formed my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother's womb."
(Psalm 139:19)
O Lord, life is sacred,
A gift from above;
Each person is worthy
Of honor and love.
Your works are so marvelous,
We're wonderfully made;
We each bear Your image,
Conception to grave.
Your hands shaped and formed us
Before we took breath;
You knit us together
And clothed us with flesh.
You gave us our life
And ordained all our days;
Your works, Lord, are wonderful;
We lift our hearts in praise.
Upheld since conception
And carried since birth,
To old age and hair of gray,
We're still of great worth.
We still bear Your likeness,
The stamp of Your hand;
You made us in Jesus
For all the works you planned.
And so, may we honor
Each person we meet;
The kindness You've shown us,
We wish to repeat
From children to aged-
We'll serve them in Your name;
As You honor us, O Lord,
We pledge to do the same.
