The third named storm of the 2021 Atlantic Hurricane Season
is bringing flooding rainfall and high winds to several states
bordering the Gulf of Mexico this morning.
Tropical Storm Claudette was pushing towards the central
Gulf Coast on Friday evening, when, in an unusual turn of
events, she formed inland over far southeastern Louisiana
early Saturday morning.
At this time, Claudette was packing maximum sustained winds
of 45 mph which, according to the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale,
was well over the 39-mile an hour sustained winds needed
for her to be considered a tropical storm.
Coastal storm warnings remain in effect across the Gulf Coast today
from Morgan City, Louisiana to the Okaloosa/Walton County line in the
Florida Panhandle. Claudette is expected to move inland over the next
couple of days and remain a tropical depression over much of the
southeastern United States, bringing heavy rains and windy conditions
in her wake before regenerating off the coast of North Carolina
where she is once again expected to become a tropical storm.
at the Jersey Shore? I guess we'll just have to wait and see!
