Flashback Friday: Everybody Loves Somebody

Although he was still a major recording artist, the legendary
Italian- American crooner Dean Martin, had not had a top 40
hit song since 1958.  This all changed on August 12, 1964.

Despite the rising popularity of rock and roll,  not to mention
the much media-hyped hullabaloo over the "British Invasion"
of America at the time,  Dino's recording of the old standard,
"Everybody Loves Somebody"
knocked the
Beatles' "A Hard Day's Night" out of the
Number 1 slot on
Billboard, and went straight to the top of
 both the
Billboard Hot 100 and Pop-Standard Singles Chart,
remaining at the latter for eight weeks!

The British had invaded once again, but Americans
preferred the incomparable romantic voice of Dean Martin!

When the Dean Martin Show premiered on television in 1965,
"Everybody Loves Somebody" became the show's theme,
as well as Dean's "Signature Song".
