The month of August is ending with a grand finale tonight, with
the rising of the biggest and brightest "Super Moon" of the year.
The second full moon of the month is also a Blue Moon, and will rise tonight
around 9:36 pm (Eastern Time). In all her celestial glory, lovely Luna
will be accompanied by the dazzling planet Saturn in her orbit.
According to the folks at the Old Farmer's Almanac, a Blue Moon has
nothing to do with the color of the moon. It refers to two full moon
cycles in a single month. A Blue Moon and a Super Moon occurring
in the same month is a rare event.
The next Blue-Super Moon cycle will not happen again until 2037.
This phenomenon will cause ocean tides to be higher than usual tonight.
Those living along the southeastern coastline of the United States should take
this into serious consideration as Hurricane Idalia moves north from Florida.
We have partly cloudy skies today, however, I hope they'll clear off tonight!
Hope the skies are clear where you're at, fellow sky watchers!
๐ Here's a little "Blue Moon" music....Enjoy! ๐
