Throwback Thursday: A Matter Of Faith...And The Free Exercise Thereof

 "What has been will be again and what has been done will be done again;
there is nothing new under the sun."

In regards to the current push for a Constitutional Convention to be held in
our nation, something which I do not think is necessary- our Constitution is
not the problem, and should be left as our Founding Fathers wrote it- I submit
a letter I wrote to the Editor of The Sentinel Newspaper of Franklin Township
twenty two years ago- published on April 15, 2004:

America is facing a very serious crisis concerning her freedom, and
not only from bloodthirsty foreign terrorists. This threat to our way of life
is an internal one and should be considered an ominous warning for
every citizen who believes that we are one nation under Almighty God.

The danger I speak of is the twisted, perverse agenda of hardcore left-wing
judges unleashed in courtrooms across America. These elitist liberals are
determined to banish God forever from our land. Their plans are nothing new.

Since 1947, liberal justices have been waging a battle against our country's
religious heritage. They want to rewrite our history, particularly the fact
that our nation was founded under Judeo-Christian principles.

A recent example took place on August 3, 2003 when an order was issued to
remove a monument inscribed with The Ten Commandments from the
Alabama Supreme Court.  The justices' excuse was that the monument
violated separation of church and state.

However, their order was unconstitutional!

Our Constitution has no wording in it regarding the separation of church
and state. What it does say is, "Congress shall make no law respecting
the establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..."

In 1947, the United States Supreme Court was hearing the case of Everson
vs. Board of Education. In their decision regarding this case, they lifted an
excerpt from a letter written by Thomas Jefferson, which spoke of "a wall
of separation between church and state" and used it to promote their radical
views of interpreting constitutional law, ruling not only separation
of church, but religion and state as well.

The Supreme Court was never authorized by Congress to alter the First Amendment,
changing the prohibition against government establishment of a national church to
prohibition against any religious acts by individual states.

The Supreme Court chose to close the Everson case with these alarming words:

"The First Amendment has erected a wall between church and state. The wall
must be kept high and impregnable. We could not approve the slightest breach."

The First Amendment says no such thing. It does not prohibit displays of
The Ten Commandments, reading the Bible in public schools, "In God We Trust"
on our currency, or "One Nation Under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance.

It is time for people of faith to stand up and take their country back.

Senator Richard Shelby (R-Alabama) is attempting to thwart the God-bashers
in their high and mighty tracks.  He is the primary sponsor of Bill HR3799,
the Constitution Restoration Act. This bill would limit judges from ruling on
issues of God and religion. All it needs to pass is a majority of our Congress
to realize how vitally important this bill is to our religious freedom.

As a Christian, I have been discriminated against by other area newspapers
that refused to print a recent letter I wrote regarding religious freedom. I am
grateful to The Sentinel for respecting my view.  Thank you for printing my
letter that appeared in your March 18-24 edition.

In closing, I would like to ask everyone reading this letter and who feels the
way I do about this issue to please contact your representatives in Congress
as soon as possible. A concerted, grassroots effort on the part of concerned
people will be the first steps to a possible future victory against the
tyrannical powers that be.

As the famous author Rudyard Kipling wrote:
"Stand up and take the war, the Hun is at the gate."
