Released as a single in June, 1960 singer Chubby Checker performed "The Twist"
for the first time before an audience at the Rainbow Club in Wildwood, New Jersey.
Just weeks later, on August 6, 1960 the song became a national sensation after he
performed it on Dick Clark's American Bandstand, which at that time was broadcast
from Philadelphia. "The Twist" became a Number One Hit record and dance
craze from coast-to-coast. The rest, shall we say, is American rock 'n' roll history.
