On My Mind: Defending Freedom Of Speech

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion,
or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech,
or the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to
petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
-1st Amendment of the United States Constitution

The Preamble of the Constitution of the United States of America

Hello to all my gentle readers!

In wake of all the terrible misuse and abuse of one
of America's most important, protected, and personal
liberties granted to all citizens, the right to
freedom of speech, or, the right to speak what is on
one's mind without hindrance or censorship,
which has unfortunately been in steady decline in more recent
years due to the advance of the pernicious scourge called,
"political  correctness"  here is a short timepiece from the archives
of The Saturday Evening Post Magazine, something to
consider while drinking your morning cup of coffee.
Or, depending on where you're at, you could
be drinking your afternoon or evening cup of coffee!

"Who's that knocking on the front door at this hour?
Jeopardy is going to come on any minute now!"
While I readily admit that I have not answered their knock
when my favorite nightly game show is about to air,
I have conversed with Jehovah's Witnesses many times,
and while I am courteous to them, I always make it very
clear in the beginning that I know and love the God I serve,
and, that I keep looking up because my redemption at Messiah's
return is drawing ever near with each passing day. This
simple admission on my part seems to deter them from
further conversation and leaving me with their religious
literature, however, I have often used the opportunity of
one of their unexpected visits to speak and  to share the
Word of God with them.

Defending Freedom Of Speech
-Even When You Hate What Some People Wish To Say

"In a 1943 decision, the Supreme Court held that Americans
weren't required to pledge allegiance to or salute the flag.
The editors lauded the opinion on behalf of Jehovah's Witnesses,
and all Americans, whose loyalty cannot be commanded."

"The principles of Jehovah's Witnesses can be pretty annoying to
the majority of citizens. They insist on propagating their beliefs at
the most inconvenient times and places, and they make no
concessions to the sensibilities of the majority.

To our way of thinking, this makes all the more impressive
the action of the court, taken in time of war, when hysteria
can be so easily directed towards eccentric minorities.

The majesty of the flag will not suffer because it has been
permitted to remain the symbol of a willing loyalty.
The flag, which symbolizes our hard-won privileges,
waves more proudly than before over the land of the free.
Love of country is not in danger, It springs, to quote
Justice Douglas, "from willing hearts and free minds."

Old Glory! Long May She Wave Over The Land
Of The Free And The Home Of The Brave!
God Bless America!
