Written in England in the 16th century, this sing-a-long 

 Christmas favorite was originally written as a "catechism song"

to help Catholic children learn the tenets of their faith.

The "True Love" in the song is God.

The "Partridge In A  Pear Tree" is Jesus Christ His Son, our Messiah.

The "Me" who receives the presents represents  every baptized person.
