No solstice or calendar date is needed when its summertime again in southern
New Jersey... it's officially here when beautiful, bright orange Tiger Lilies
bloom overnight in back yards and along back roads and stream beds
and in the meadows all around!

I wonder where you got your name
How did you get your claim to fame?
A petal mane curling from your face
Vivid orange with speckled brown traces.
I listen for your frightening fierce roar
There is a silence that trumpets evermore.
Examining closely...fearing threatening growls,
I see delicate beauty, no blood-thirsty jowls.
Your ferocious reputation is exaggerated
Only your tamed loveliness is accentuated.
Your countenance gently lifts to sunbeams
Among the cattails near a shallow stream.
