One of the original American teen idols of the 1960's, Bobby Rydell
(born Robert Louis Ridarelli in Philadelphia, PA) was a rock and
roll singer and an actor, who played the role of Hugo Peabody,
the jealous boyfriend of actress-singer-dancer Ann-Margret
in the 1963 movie musical, "Bye, Bye, Birdie" .
His most well known hit songs include "Wild One" and "Volare"
and of course, the following salute to summer fun down at the
Jersey shore in Wildwood. In 2014, a mural was painted on
the boardwalk there to honor Rydell, whose song placed
the community in the national spotlight.
May he rest in peace.
