Happy Flag Day U.S.A.

"Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people He has chosen as His heritage."

Flag of the Free! all hail to thee!

Born thro' the strife  and the thunder of war,

Banner so bright, with starry light,

Float ever proudly  from mountain to shore.

Flag of the Free, all hail to thee!

Floating on ocean shore,

Loud ring the cry! ne'er let it die,

"Union and Liberty" now, evermore!

Flag of the Free!  glory to see,-

Golden thy stars in the blue of their sky!

Flag of the brave! Onward to save,-

Crimson thy bars  floating gaily on high!

Flag of the brave, long may it wave!

Chosen of God while His might we adore,

High in the van,  for manhood of man,

Symbol of Right  thro' the years  passing o'er;

Sages of old thy coming foresaw,

Empire of justice,  empire of law;

Flag of our fathers!  all around the world

Blest of millions  wherever unfurled;

Terror to tyrants,  hope to the slave,

Spread thy fair folds to shield and to save,

Splendid thy story, mighty to save,

Matchless the beauty on land or wave,

Heroes have borne thee aloft in the fray,

Foremen who scorned thee have all passed away;

Pride of our country, hailed from a far,

Banner of Promise,  lose not a star,

Flower of the ages,  promised of yore,

Flower of the ages, fade never-more!

Emblem of Freedom, "Many in One,"

Over thee thine eagle,  bird of the sun;

All hail, "Old Glory!" hearts leap to see

How from the nations the world looks to thee.

Flag of the Free, all hail to thee!

Floating on ocean shore,

 Loud ring the cry! ne'er let it die.

 "Union and Liberty" now, evermore!"

John "J.P" Piersol McCaskey
(1837-1935)
American educator, mayor,
textbook and songbook editor,
publisher, and journalist.
McCaskey strongly believed that the most
important goal in the education of youth
was the building of character, especially
in the young men he taught in high school.
The inscription on his tombstone reflects
that goal: "Builder of Men".
