This beautiful ballad sung by the powerful baritone vocals of the great
English pop singer Sir Tom Jones was a big hit for him upon the release
of his album by the same name in November, 1965.
"The Green, Green Grass Of Home" brings back memories of when I was a little girl
listening to the radio while riding along in the car with my parents and siblings on a weekend
drive which our family often took after church services on Sunday in the summertime.
The resignation in the singer's voice as he wakes up from a dream to see
the four gray walls of his prison cell surrounding him on the day of his
execution, and the sad old padre who walks arm and arm with him
at daybreak, always brought a tear to my eye. Still does today.
