"Long as I remember the rain been comin' down
Clouds of mystery pourin' confusion on the ground
Good men through the ages tryin' to find the sun,
And I wonder, still I wonder, who'll stop the rain?"
Written by American singer, songwriter, and guitarist John Fogerty
for his band Creedence Clearwater Revival's 1970 album, Cosmo's Factory,
"Who'll Stop The Rain" reflects the turbulent political and social climate
of the late 1960's and early 1970's in America.
The song was considered a veiled protest of the ongoing conflict in Viet Nam, and
in particular, the lyrics, "Five Year Plans and New Deals wrapped in golden chains..."
a definite reference to the disingenuous politics of Washington DC at the time.
