"Baby mine, don't you cry,
Baby mine, dry your eyes
Rest your head close to my heart
Never to part, baby of mine..."
On this day of tribute to mothers everywhere I am reminded of
how fast time goes by when it comes to our children. It seems like
just yesterday my boys were only babies. And just yesterday,
my oldest son, Daniel, turned 32 years old!
In the 1941 animated Walt Disney classic, "Dumbo" the sweet lullabye
"Baby Mine" was sung to the title character by his mother.
The song was nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Song at
the 14th Academy Awards in 1942. It was also listed by the American
Film Institute as one of America's greatest film songs.
In 1996, American bluegrass/country singer Allison Krauss recorded
the song for the album, "The Best of Country Sing The Best of Disney"
which garnered her a Grammy nomination for Best Female Country Vocal
Performance in 1997. Although there have been other musical artists who
have covered, "Baby Mine" I think Allison's lovely voice sings it best.
