Sleigh Ride: Remembering Ronnie Spector (1943-2022)

The sensational 60's songstress Ronnie Spector,
lead singer of the iconic American girl group,
The Ronettes, passed away yesterday after a
brief battle with cancer.  She was 78 years old.

Born Veronica Yvette Bennett on August 10, 1943
she formed The Ronettes in 1957, along with her older sister,
Estelle Bennett, and their cousin, Nedra Talley.

The Ronettes had a string of smash hits in the early 1960's,
including "Be My Baby" (1963) which re-gained popularity when it
was featured in the movie, "Dirty Dancing" in 1987.  The group also
sang "Baby I Love You" (1963) and "Walkin' In The Rain" (1964).

In 1986, Ronnie joined the MTV generation when she appeared
singing with Eddie Money in the video for his song, "Take Me Home Tonight."

It always reminds me of Christmas whenever I hear Ronnie and the girls
singing this classic version of "Sleigh Ride". Even if it's in the middle of July!

May she rest in peace.
