Mary Sidney Herbert, the Countess of Pembroke, was said to be one of
 the most educated women of her time, comparable only to Queen Elizabeth I.
She could speak several languages, including Latin and possibly Greek. 

Although she lived in a society where education for women was mostly
frowned upon, for twenty years Mary was instrumental in the organization
and leadership of the Wilton Circle, an important and highly influential
literary society in England.  She was also the first woman to publish a
play written in English and the first woman to publish an original
pastoral piece, also in English, which she translated and published
from French and Italian.  Mary was the sister of the famous 
Elizabethan poet Sir Phillip Sidney.

Flashback Friday: They Don't Make 'Em Like My Daddy

 

Released in April, 1974,  country legend Loretta Lynn's tribute to her father Ted Webb,
"They Don't Make'Em Like My Daddy" was a big hit for her that summer, peaking
  at Number # 4 on the US Billboard Hot Country Singles chart.

My father, Anthony Brida was not a coal miner, but he was definitely, "one heck of a man 
who worked for what he got" building a successful trucking business with my mother
  while raising six kids.  It was not easy, but my Dad belonged to a generation of
men who believed that self-reliance and determination, along with hard work,
reaped their own rewards.  A quality of character which is sorely lacking 
in this once "great big land of freedom" of today.  I love you, Daddy.

I was never more proud of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin "Bibi" Netanyahu
for the powerful, soul-stirring speech he gave before Congress yesterday
in defense of his nation and people in their war with Hamas 
and the other enemies surrounding them.

  He is a true leader of his people.

He is the man chosen by God to lead Israel in such a time as this!

May God bless and protect Benjamin Netanyahu, his wife Sara, 
and their family in these dangerous and uncertain times.

"Behold, He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep."

On the other hand, I honestly tried to watch President Joe Biden's speech to
the nation last night- until he began singing the praises of Kamala Harris,
 of how experienced, tough, and capable she is.... I had to turn the channel.

  By the way, Kamala was a no-show for the speech given by
Prime Minister Netanyahu yesterday.

As Vice President she is expected to preside over the Senate
on such an occasion, however, "due to prior commitments"
she failed to attend the speech.  Shame on her.

Some of the "good people" which Biden spoke about last night after they burned the American flag at

Union Station in Washington DC yesterday.  After incinerating Old Glory, these protesters hoisted up

the Palestinian flag. A Hamas flag was also spotted in the crowd.  The American flag was later
replaced  through the efforts of  Congressmen: Rep. Brandon Williams (R-NY),
Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX), and Rep. Derrick Van Orden (R-Wis)
 along with Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA).
