In the wake of yesterday's shocking events, I was led to read the
following psalm of David. I feel that his harsh criticism for Israel
parallels the profound hatred and division found within America today,
fostered by those who have no fear or dread of God in their hearts.
PSALM 36
To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David
the servant of the Lord
Transgression like an oracle speaks to the wicked in his heart.
There is no fear or dread of God before his eyes.
For he flatters and deceives himself in his own eyes that his iniquity
will not be found out and be hated.
The words of his mouth are wrong and deceitful;
he has ceased to be wise and to do good.
He plans wrongdoing on his bed; he sets himself in a way
that is not good; he does not reject or despise evil.
Your mercy and loving-kindness, O Lord, extend to the skies,
and Your faithfulness to the clouds.
Your righteousness is like the mountains of God, Your judgments are like
the great deep, O Lord, You preserve man and beast.
How precious is Your steadfast love, O God! The children of men take
refuge and put their trust under the shadow of Your wings.
They relish and feast on the abundance of Your house; and You cause
them to drink of the stream of Your pleasures.
For with You is the fountain of life; in Your light do we see light.
O continue Your loving-kindness to those who know You,
Your righteousness (salvation) to the upright in heart.
Let not the foot of pride overtake me; and let not the hand of
the wicked drive me away.
There the workers of iniquity fall and lie prostrate;
they are thrust down and shall not be able to rise.
America has come very far, very fast, in our 248 years of existence.
Will a senseless act of evil mark the beginning of an irreversible demise?
The apostle Paul further attested in his letter to the Romans:
"Their throat is a yawning grave; they use their tongues to deceive and
mislead and to deal treacherously. The venom of asps is beneath their lips.
Their mouth is full of cursing and bitterness. Their feet are swift to shed blood.
Destruction as it dashes them to pieces and misery mark their ways.
And they have no experience of the way of peace. There is no
reverential fear of God before their eyes."
(Romans 3:13-18)
Where there is faith there is always hope. Is there still hope for America?
Believers need to put on the full armor of God-His Word- and trust in Him.
Through the power of intercessory prayer and standing for the truth at
all costs, we need to reclaim our spiritual heritage as a nation which
was dedicated to the Lord Jesus Christ by our pilgrim ancestors.
These people, whose names are now known only to God, landed here
after weeks of uncertainty and deprivation at sea, in Cape Henry, Virginia,
and later in Plymouth, Massachusetts. They knew that had it not been for
their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and the guidance of the Holy Spirit,
they would have never reached these shores.
God placed a dream in the hearts of these early settlers who came
to this land which would one day be called America. A vision of
hope inspired by faith of a new home where they could worship
Him in spirit and in truth. These pilgrims who lived and died
here centuries ago sowed the spiritual seed for the nation to come.
The men who would later found our nation would glean inspiration
from these early Christian settlers and based our Constitution and
other laws on the timeless principles found within the Word of God.
They also realized that had it not been for the divine intervention of
Almighty God in response to the prayers of General George Washington
and others, we would have never won our freedom from Great Britain.
I believe that the faith of the men and women in past generations
is the single reason why America has grown and prospered like
no other nation on the face of the earth.
I further believe that no man, no political party, no financial
institution, etc. can save America now.
Only faith in the mercy and loving-kindness of Almighty God and a time
of national repentance, coupled with the earnest prayers of righteous men
and women across this land can truly, "Make America Great Again"
