I did not know that last Monday night at the Republican National Convention,
the benediction prayer was given by a woman named Harmeet Dhillon, who
recited a Sikh 'ardas' in the presence of the party's presidential nominee
Donald Trump. While some people were upset over this, the media
quickly rose to Dhillon's defense, calling those concerned, "racist".
Under the First Amendment, Harmeet Dhillon has a right to practice
her chosen religion. However, there was a time in America when the
Bible was exclusively used as the preferred guide by our nation's leaders.
Now when people declare, "God Bless America" these days,
I often wonder what god they are talking about.
The Reverend Franklin Graham also prayed at the RNC, offering up
his benediction, "In the name of my Savior Jesus Christ, the King of
kings and Lord of lords." A safe prayer at best. But what would have
been the reaction if he had said, "In the Name of my Savior Jesus Christ,
America's God, the only God, the King of kings and Lord of lords" instead?
Jesus Christ is America's God! Our pilgrim ancestors knew
this, and so did many of the founders who signed the
Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution.
George Washington knew this when he commanded his men to
get on their knees and pray before each battle with the British,
whether they wanted to or not.
Even Benjamin Franklin, the founder that liberal revisionist historians
have glibly insisted over the years was a "deist" knew that had it not been
for the divine intervention of Almighty God during the darkest days
of the Revolutionary War, our nation would have lost it's struggle
for freedom from the imperial forces of Great Britain.
Standing before the assembly of the Continental Congress in 1787,
an aging Franklin told his listeners: "I have lived, Sir, a long time
and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth,
that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot
fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable that
an empire can rise without His aid? (Matthew 10:29).
We have been assured, Sir, in the sacred writings that, "Except the Lord builds the house
they labor in vain that build it." (Psalm 127:1) I firmly believe this; and I also believe
that without His concurring aid we shall succeed in this political building
no better than the Builders of Babel: (Genesis 11:1-9).
We shall be divided by our little partial interests; our projects will be confounded,
and we ourselves shall become a reproach and a by word down to future age.
(Deuteronomy 28:37)
And what is worse, mankind may hereafter from this unfortunate instance despair of
establishing Governments by Human Wisdom, and leave it to chance, war, and conquest.
I therefore beg leave to move...that henceforth prayers imploring the assistance of Heaven,
and its blessings on our deliberations, be held in this Assembly every morning
before we proceed to business and that one or more of the Clergy of the City
be requested to officiate that service."
For someone labeled as a "deist" or an adherent of the belief in the existence
of a supreme being, specifically of a creator who does not intervene in
the universe, Ben sure knew about the God of the Holy Bible!
He had a special quality sorely lacking in American politics in 2024. Guts!
But I suppose the icing on the cake was the other night, when a seemingly
recovered, back-to-his-normal bombastic self Donald Trump spoke before
a crowd of enthusiastic supporters in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and stated:
"You have the radical left and the radical right and they come up- I don't
know what the hell it is, it's Project 25...they are extreme, they're
seriously extreme." Strange that President Trump has had a sudden
about-face concerning Project 2025, when during his first term
he seemed firmly committed to the ideals of this program.
According to a recent article in Forbes Magazine, "The ex-president has
also seemingly endorsed the project in the past, saying at a 2022 dinner for
the Heritage Foundation that the group was "going to lay the groundwork
and detail plans for exactly what our movement will do...when the
American people give us a colossal mandate."
That's a far cry from Mr. Trump's attitude the other night.
Forbes reports that Project 2025, as spearheaded by the
conservative think-tank The Heritage Foundation, is basically a
"Mandate For Leadership" which includes a 900-page proposed policy
agenda based on conservative political values. Described as a "plan to
unite the conservative movement and the American people against elite
rule and woke culture warriors" Project 2025 lays out the ground
work for all aspects of the executive branch of government.
Although it does not call for a ban on all abortions in America, the project
would take the needed steps to restrict the procedure as much as humanly
possible. This mandate would direct the Food and Drug Administration to
revoke its approval of the controversial abortion pill, better known as
Mifepristone, and through the invocation of The Comstock Act, would
permit the FDA to block any abortion equipment or medication
from being received through the mail, something abortion rights
advocates have called a "backdoor way" to ban abortion.
During the debate between himself and President Joe Biden last month,
Donald Trump reneged on his pro-life stance and claimed he supported the
recent Supreme Court decision to allow distribution of the abortion pill.
Under the auspices of Project 2025, federal funds would no longer be used
to provide healthcare coverage for abortion. It would further require the
states to report all abortions which take place to the federal government.
Again, Trump stated in the June debate that he would place no
federal restrictions on states regarding abortion.
Project 2025 also addresses the issue of school choice, bars "critical race theory" from
being taught in the classroom of federally funded schools, and supports parents rights
in the education of their children, including suing a school district which they feel
has acted in an improper manner, teaching controversial subjects, or requiring
students to disclose information about their religious beliefs.
Transgendered Americans would be banned from serving in the U.S. Military.
Students on the college level would resume responsibility
for paying back their college loans.
Social Media companies would be banned from suspending users
based on their political or religious point-of-view.
There would be a complete overhaul of the U.S. Justice Department,
which has become politically weaponized by the Far Left in recent years.
I am sure some people reading this post will agree with Trump that
those involved in the Project 2025 project are "extreme, their seriously extreme."
I believe a good definition of much of the thinking in post-Christian
American politics today is, (We must be)... "tolerant, extremely tolerant."
"You shall have no other gods before Me."
(Exodus 20:3)
America has succumbed to a culture which worships gods of
perversion and death. We have forsaken our national belief
in the One True God, the Lord Jesus Christ, in order to compete
with other deities in order to be "tolerant, extremely tolerant."
"You shall not commit murder."
(Exodus 20:13)
As I said in an earlier post, God will never honor nor prosper a nation
which murders its own children. And unlike those running for public office
in America today, God means what He says. And He does not change.
You might even call Him, "extreme...seriously extreme."
