Planets On Parade Tonight!

"Lift up your eyes on high: Who created all these?  He leads forth the starry host
by number; He calls each one by name. Because of His great power and
mighty strength, not one of them is missing."
(Isaiah 40:26)

February ends tonight with a rare celestial event as seven planets
will be on parade in the sky.

According to Space.com, this type of planetary alignment occurs
because the planets orbit the sun on a relatively flat, disk-shaped plane.
While it is not uncommon for multiple planets to be visible at the same time,
it is rare for all seven to line up at once. In fact, the next such alignment
won't be visible until 2040.

I hope the skies are clear where you are tonight!

Flashback Friday: Remembering Roberta Flack (1937-2025)

A special tribute on this last Friday and day of the month of
February to legendary American soul, jazz, and R&B recording
artist Roberta Flack, who passed away on February 24, 2025
at the age of 88.  May she rest in eternal peace.

Originally written in 1957 as a folk song by British political singer-
songwriter Ewan MacColl,  Ms. Flack first recorded the hauntingly
beautiful ballad, "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" for her album,
"First Take" in 1969.  However, it was not until her version was
featured in the suspenseful, big screen thriller, "Play Misty For Me"
that it soared to the top of Billboard's US Adult Contemporary
and Top Hot 100 charts in 1972.  The song also won Grammy
Awards for Record of the Year and Song of the Year and
became an international hit for Roberta Flack.

The song was so popular that it was played as the wake-up music on flight
day 9 to the astronauts aboard Apollo 17, on their last day in lunar orbit
Friday, December 15, 1972 before returning to earth. The use of the
song is said to have been inspired by the face of the moon.

Said Roberta of this song: "It's a perfect song. Second only to "Amazing Grace"
I think...It's the kind of song that has two unique and distinct qualities: It tells a
story and has lyrics that mean something...Because of its lyrics the song can
be interpreted by a lot of people in a lot of different ways: the love of a
mother for a child, for example, or that of two lovers. I wish more songs
I had chosen moved me the way this one did. I've loved most every song
I've recorded, but this one was pretty special."

The Bearded Bible Brothers Present: Rebuilding the Ruined Cities Part 5/The Exile

Joshua and Caleb explore the infamous Tel Lachish ruins to recount
the story of the destruction against Judea and Samaria at the hands of
Assyria and the Babylonians, proving that Israel's sin of rebellion and
idolatry brought about the harm inflicted on them.

God has always warned His people to repent before they are taken
captive and exiled from their land. Yet, through the prophet Jeremiah,
the Lord promised that after seventy years of captivity, His people
would return to the land He gave them, as well as the future
 promise of the forthcoming Messiah.

Throwback Thursday: Standing Up

The following letter was written in either 2008 or 2012, and later published
in The Sentinel Newspaper of Franklin Twp. New Jersey.

In the wake of the November, 2024 election, it is clear to me that God has not only
rendered His mercy on an unjust and wicked nation called America, but, in this time
of extended grace, the remnant Church needs to rise up and use this crucial hour
to witness the saving message of the gospel across our lost and wounded land.

We have been spared, but, not exactly cleared, from the forthcoming
judgment of God on our nation.

Now is the time to let our voices be heard.

Reverend Paul Robert Schneider
(1897-1939)

Romans 13:1 states, "Let every person be loyally subject to the governing authorities.
For there is no authority accept from God, and those who exist do so by God's appointment."

Christians are commanded to be civilly obedient, to honor their leaders, and pay their taxes.
In other words, be upstanding, law-abiding citizens which most Christians are because
we believe that we stand accountable for our actions, both public and private, before God.
However, in verse nine of Romans 13, Paul reminds us of the Ten Commandments:
"You shall not commit adultery, steal, nor covet evil desire."

This same behavior applies to our government leaders as well.  While we are called to
honor (respect) them, and obey the laws, we first stand accountable before God.
Therefore, when the behavior of  government leaders is immoral and their
decrees conflict with our faith in God, we have to stand for our faith.

The Reverend Paul Schneider was a Presbyterian minister who risked his life
and the security of his family by standing up to the demonic ideology of
the Third Reich in Germany.  From the early days of his regime, dictator
Adolf Hitler sought to utilize the Church in Germany as a tool to spread
his false Nazi gospel of "racial purity."

Adolf Hitler with the Vatican ambassador Cesare Orsenigo
in 1935, two years before he seized power.

However, Pastor Schneider refused to pervert the gospel of Christ with
the doctrines of the Nazis.  In 1934, he asked his congregation, "Where are
those Christian consciences who judge righteously, who take their standard
neither from National Socialism, nor from socialism, but rather from the gospel?"

Pastor Schneider's sermon was once interrupted by a member of Hitler's Youth
who declared that a member of his group who had recently died in an accident
was now a heavenly storm trooper, to which Pastor Schneider replied,
"This is a church service. There are no storm troopers in heaven!"

Although he continued to preach his message and stand up against the Nazis,
Pastor Schneider was eventually arrested by the Gestapo and sent to Buchenwald,
where he refused to salute the swastika and pledge allegiance to Hitler, which
was required of all prisoners each morning.

Yet, despite terrible suffering for his stand of faith, Pastor Schneider's message
never changed. He preached loudly from his solitary cell, warning his Nazi captors
of God's coming judgment on sin.  He later died from repeated severe beatings
at the hands of the SS officers.

In reading this story yesterday my first thought was, Who will be the Pastor Schneiders
of today's generation?  America as a nation has come to a halt at the crossroads. Do
we allow our government to keep on course and destroy us or will believers make
their voices heard, and stand up against evil by voting their faith instead of
their political affiliation this November?

Today In History: Grand Canyon National Park

"Leave it as it is. You cannot improve on it. The ages have been
at work on it, and man can only mar it."
-President Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt,
after visiting the Grand Canyon in 1903.

The Grand Canyon

Today marks the 106th anniversary of the establishment of  Grand Canyon
National Park.   In 1919, President Woodrow Wilson signed an act of Congress
establishing the Grand Canyon National Park, which covers 1,217, 262 acres
in Arizona, to protect and to preserve one of America's and the world's
most beautiful natural wonders.  Grand Canyon National Park
is the second most visited national park each year.

Just how grand is the Grand Canyon?

According to Joe Yogerst, writing for National Geographic: "The massive gash in
the Earth's surface stretches 277 miles from east to west, measures 18 miles across at
its widest point, and plunges around one mile from the rim to the Colorado River.
As the elevation descends, the park transitions from pristine evergreen forest
to stark desert landscape with 1.8 billion years of geology."

At least 11 American Indian tribes claim the Grand Canyon as their ancestral home,
including the Hualapai tribe, or "People of the Tall Pines."  Today most of the tribe's
income comes from tourism and their reservation manages tours and runs the Skywalk,
a glass and steel horseshoe walkway that juts out 70' over the canyon rim.

Another tribe with close ties to the great Canyon includes the Havasupai Indians,
the "People of the Blue-Green Water". Other tribes which live in the vicinity
of the Grand Canyon are the Navajo, the Hopi, and the Southern Paiute.

Indigenous peoples had lived in and around the Grand Canyon for at least 12,000 years
before Spanish conquistadors discovered the area the Paiute Indians called, "Kaibab"
which translated means,  "Mountains Lying Down".  In 1869, American geologist, explorer,
Civil War veteran, and later, the director of the Bureau of American Ethnology at the
Smithsonian Institute, Major John Wesley Powell, became famous for his three
month river trip down the Green and Colorado rivers, including the first
official government -sponsored passage through the Grand Canyon.

Powell's account of the trip, "The Exploration of the Colorado River and its Tributaries"
published in 1875, was later dramatized in the 1960 Walt Disney film,  "Ten Who Dared."

Wednesday's Word: New Every Morning Is The Love

"His compassions fail not. They are new every morning."

New every morning is the love

Our wakening and uprising prove;

Through sleep and darkness safely brought,

Restored to life and power and thought.

New mercies, each returning day,

Hover around us while we pray;

New perils past, new sins forgiven,

New thoughts of God, new hopes of Heaven.

If, on our daily course, our mind

Be set to hallow all we find,

New treasures still, of countless price,

God will provide for sacrifice.

Old friends, old scenes, will lovelier be,

As more of Heaven in each we see;

Some softening gleam of love and prayer

Shall dawn on every cross and care.

We need not bid, for cloistered cell,

Our neighbor and our words farewell,

Nor strive to find ourselves too high

For sinful man beneath the sky.

The trivial round, the common task,

Will furnish all we ought to ask;

Room to deny ourselves, a road

To bring us daily nearer God.

Seek we no more; content with these,

Let present rapture, comfort, and ease-

And Heav'n shall bid them, come and go:

The secret of this rest below.

Only, O Lord, in Thy dear love,

Fit us for perfect rest above,

And help us, this and every day,

To love more nearly as we pray.

Monday Meditation: He Will Not Suffer Thy Foot To Be Moved

"He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: He that keepeth thee will not slumber."
(Psalm 121:3)

Mountain Path

If the Lord will not suffer it, neither men nor devils can do it.
How greatly would they rejoice if they could give us a disgraceful fall,
drive us from our position, and bury us out of memory! They could do
this to their heart's content were it not for one hindrance, and only one,
the Lord will not suffer it, and if He does not suffer it, we shall not suffer it.

The way of life is like traveling among the Alps. Along mountain paths one
is constantly exposed to the slipping of the foot. Where the way is high, the
head is apt to swim, and then the feet soon slide: there are spots which are
smooth as glass, and others that are rough with loose stones,
and in either of these a fall is hard to avoid.

He who throughout life is enabled to keep himself upright and to walk
without stumbling has the best of reasons for gratitude.  What with pitfalls
and snares, weak knees, weary feet, and subtle enemies, no child of God
would stand fast for an hour were it not for the faithful love which
will not suffer his foot to be moved.

"Amidst a thousand snares I stand
Upheld and guarded by Thy hand.
The hand unseen shall hold me still,
And lead me to thy holy hill."

-Charles Haddon Spurgeon

Sunday Night In Uncle Walt's Vault: Miracle Of The White Stallions

Based on the book, "The Dancing White Horses Of Austria" by Colonel Alois Podhajsky,
this 1963 Walt Disney film recounts the exciting WWII story of "Operation Cowboy"
and the rescue of 70 Lipizzaner Stallions from the famous Spanish Riding School
in Vienna, along with 300 mares and foals from a breeding farm in Czechoslavakia.

To gain the favor of American General George Patton,  Col. Podhajsky (Robert Taylor)
and his team from the Spanish Riding School perform for him in a special presentation
of "Airs Above The Ground" with the hope that Patton, who participated in equestrian
events in the 1912 Olympics, will see the value of the horses and help rescue
the mares and foals in Czechoslavkia.

Called "George's Cherry Cobbler" this easy to make dessert recipe
taken from "The Nancy Drew Cookbook: Clues To Good Cooking"
by Carolyn Keene, can actually be attributed to George Fayne,
the best friend of America's favorite titian-haired girl sleuth!

Both attractive brunette tomboy George, along with another best friend,
the plump and pretty blonde Bess Marvin, who is George's cousin,
often assisted Nancy in solving many baffling mysteries!

Even George Washington would be impressed with Nancy's success!

And this delicious cherry cobbler too!

GEORGE'S CHERRY COBBLER

6 T butter

1 cup prepared biscuit mix

1/2 cup sugar

1 cup milk

1/4 tsp. cinnamon

1 21-ounce can cherry pie filling

Melt butter in 350 degree oven in a *small baking dish.

In a separate bowl combine remaining ingredients in order.

Don't overmix.  Pour mixture into the melted butter without

any more stirring.  Bake uncovered 45-50 minutes or until set.

Serves 4-6.

This recipe would go great with some vanilla ice cream or whipped cream!

*Although this recipe does not specify the size of  a "small baking dish"
I baked my cobbler in a 11 x 8 glass Pyrex baking dish and it turned out great!

All beautiful the march of days

All seasons come and go;

The Hand that shaped the rose hath wrought

The crystal of the snow;

Hath sent the hoary frost of Heav'n,

The flowing waters sealed,

And laid a silent loveliness

On hill and wood and field.

O'er white expanses sparkling pure

The radiant morns unfold;

The solemn splendors of the night

Burn brighter than the cold;

Life mounts in every throbbing vein,

Love deepens round the hearth,

And clearer sounds the angel hymn,

"Good will to men on earth."

O Thou from whose unfathomed law

The year in beauty flows,

Thyself the vision passing by

In crystal and in rose,

Day unto day doth utter speech,

And night to night proclaim,

In ever changing words of light,

The wonder of Thy name.

The Falcon Lake Incident: The Most Credible UFO Case In History

Host Mike Droberg recounts one of the most well-documented and chilling UFO
encounters in history.  In 1967, a man named Stefan Michalak claimed to have
come face-to-face with a strange craft in the wilderness of Manitoba, Canada.

Michalak was severely burned after touching the UFO and stumbled away
from the site when the craft took off again.  A later investigation of Michalak's
strange encounter was conducted by both Canadian and American officials,
the results of which, however, left more questions than answers.

The story of the UFO incident at Falcon Lake was later profiled on
the Season 5 Episode 8 segment of the popular television show
"Unsolved Mysteries" which aired on November 4, 1992.

Do not stand by my grave, and weep.

I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am the thousand winds that blow

I am the diamond glints in snow

I am the sunlight on ripened grain.

I am the gentle, autumn rain.

As you awake with morning's hush,

I am the swift, up-flinging rush

Of quiet birds in circling flight.

I am the day transcending night.

Do not stand by my grave and cry-

I am not there. I did not die.

In Loving Memory of Shiri, Ariel, and Kfir Bibas.
May they rest in eternal peace.

My heart and prayers are with Yarden Bibas, the family

May God comfort them with His love and with His peace

Wednesday's Word: "For The Christian There Is Only One Course"

"If the world hates you, understand that it hated me first. If you were of the world,
it would love you as its own. Instead, the world hates you, because you are not of
the world, but I have chosen you out of the world.
Remember the word that I spoke to you: "No servant is greater than his master."
If they persecuted Me, they will persecute you as well; if they kept My Word,
they will keep yours as well."
(John 15:18-20)

"For the Christian there is only one course. The Christian can't be anything
but confrontational. Once you know the truth, this means following it,
upholding it, and if necessary suffering for it.

I can't be different. I can't act differently. I love freedom and would very
much like to be free with my family and friends.  But I don't want to act
against my conscience.  What good is freedom to me if I can't call
God my Father?  The knowledge that my soul and thoughts are free
encourages and strengths me. That is all I wanted to say to you."

These were the final words spoken by Aida Skripnikova,
in her own defense, at her trial in the days of the former
Soviet Union.  After she finished speaking, the judge
presiding over the trial  sentenced her to three years in
prison for daring to publicly share her Christian faith.

However, even locking her up in a communist labor camp
could not stop Aida's commitment to serving Jesus Christ
and sharing the good news of the Gospel with others.
Manuscripts from her trial were painstakingly copied
unto pieces of cut down bed sheets and similar fabric
and later smuggled out of the Soviet Union and into
the hands of believers around the world, who read
the courageous testimony of "Aida of Leningrad"
and prayed for this remarkable woman of faith.

Today, Aida lives in St. Petersburg, Russia.  Ironically, her
strong faith has outlived the regime which sought to destroy it.

Pluto Day 2025

Today marks the 95th anniversary of the discovery of the planet Pluto.

Pluto

One of the more mysterious heavenly bodies within our solar system,
the planet (or as some claim, "dwarf planet") Pluto was discovered by
American astronomer Clyde William Tombaugh in 1930 during his
time as a researcher at the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona.

Tombaugh's discovery of what was first called, "Planet X"
made it by far the first known object within the Kuiper Belt,
a ring of bodies beyond the orbit of Neptune.  It is also the
ninth-largest and tenth-most massive object to directly
orbit the sun and is the largest known trans-Neptunian
object by volume, by a small margin, but is less massive
than Eris, the most massive and second-largest known
dwarf planet in the Solar System.

It is said that at the time of it's discovery, animator Walt Disney
named Mickey Mouse's comical canine companion, Pluto,
in honor of the newly found planet.
