"A wise old owl sat on an oak,
The more he saw, the less he spoke;
The less he spoke, the more he heard;
Why aren't we all like that wise old bird?

Although this mysterious bird has long been associated with witchcraft and
the occult, the Bible also contains references to owls, not only as unclean birds,
(concerning OT dietary rules and regulations) but as harbingers of
divine judgment for turning away from God's commandments.
The prophet Isaiah spoke of owls inhabiting the land of Edom,
which came under God's judgment due to their pride and disobedience.
"The desert owl and screech owl will possess it; the great owl and raven
will dwell in it. The LORD will stretch out over Edom the measuring line
of chaos and the plumb line of destruction."
(Isaiah 34:11)
However, despite the negativity often associated with owls, they remain one of
God's most beautiful and intelligent creatures. The Mama owl can be especially
noted for her tender care and attentiveness to her babies.
Both female and male owls play an active role in the upbringing of the owlets,
feeding them a diet rich in small mammals and insects essential to proper
growth and development. And while the female owl is primarily responsible
for incubating eggs, the male owl provides food and protection. Both parents
use their keen instincts to detect and ward off potential threats to their young.
In this episode of the classic television series, "Wild America"
host Marty Stouffer presents a stunning up close look
at these supreme hunters of the night!
