Vaya Con Dios Linda Cristal

I was sorry to hear of the recent passing of Linda Cristal,
one of my favorite actresses of classic American television.

Miss Cristal was best known for her Emmy and Golden Globe
award-winning performance as the beautiful and high-spirited
Victoria Montoya Cannon, the second wife of rancher John Cannon,
on the NBC weekly western series, "The High Chaparral"
which aired on the network in the late 1960's and early 1970's.

I discovered the show in syndication in the mid to late 1970's
and it quickly became one of my favorite television series.
I always admired the elegant Victoria, a woman of genteel
manners, and yet someone who could quickly become a
force to be reckoned with if you crossed her the wrong way!
Especially if your name happened to be Manolito!
(Victoria's mischievous, fun-loving brother.)

I am sorry that the show was cancelled after only a few seasons.
I always wished that Victoria could have blessed her marriage to John
by having the child she so longed for, however, it seemed that by
the early 1970's western-themed dramas which were so popular
back in the 1950's and 60's were on the decline in the ratings and the
show was cancelled in favor of "more modern day" television dramas.
