A Wealth Of Lilacs

A wealth of lilacs have I here,

Their mystic whispers stir my ear.

Their lovely fragrance fills my heart,

As memories of their blooms impart.

When I was but a little child,

A lilac bush, untrimmed and wild,

Delighted me with joy untold,

Where shone the sun of purest gold,

I pulled the clustered lilac spray

And breathed their fragrance of the day.

One morning time a lilac hue

Slipped softly o'er the sea of blue.

It seemed that souls of lilacs gone

Had stolen back to rule the dawn.

Fair lilacs of my thousand dreams,

My heart amid you thrills and teems

With thoughts and hopes of life to be

That seeks to win the soul of me.

On My Mind: Engaging In Toxic Politics Lately?

"It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen."
 "1984"
  George Orwell

George Orwell
(1949)

It seems quite obvious to me that even attempting to engage people
in civil conversation about politics these days can too often result into
a nasty, name-calling argument, particularly when one engages in dialogue
with a dyed-in-the-wool Socialist masquerading as a liberal Democrat.

I have always believed in the standard, "live and let live" in regards to people's
personal political and religious convictions, however, and as much as they try to
deny this, the political Left hates and resents anyone who dares to think
differently from them, or worse, can think for themselves!

I suppose this is the reason behind Department of Homeland Security Chief
Alejandro Mayorkas' announcement before Congress this week of the formation
of a "Disinformation Governance Board" which will purportedly serve to ensure
secure and fair elections, and according to The New American Magazine, "will
prevent misinformation from being used ahead of the upcoming mid-term elections."

Mayorkas further stated that the board will use, "the weight of the DHS to fight
misinformation" but promises to protect free speech, privacy, and civil rights.

This announcement immediately raised a red flag in my mind, coming so
quickly on the heels of business magnate Elon Musk's recent successful
takeover of Twitter.  He (Musk) has promised to protect the free speech
of people who use this social media venue, and this includes guarding
the First Amendment rights of political conservatives and evangelical,
or Bible-believing Christians.

When I read about this "Disinformation Governance Board" my mind
immediately harkened back to my high school days when I read
George Orwell's "1984".   What the DHS Chief is proposing sounds
very much like the "Ministry of Truth" in that novel, a government
bureau which controlled both the thoughts and the speech of the people.
You could speak your mind, but only if you towed and spoke
the totalitarian party line!

From Day One Usurper Biden and his NWO minions working behind
the scenes, have been very busy trashing the constitutional rights of all
Americans.  We are already dealing with unlawful surveillance via the
FBI showing up on people's doorsteps like a modern day Gestapo,
historical revisionism, and massive thought control primarily
through mainstream media propaganda.  Could this congruously
named, "Disinformation Governance Board" be far behind?

I would end this post with a plea for Congress to get involved
and do something, however, with the exception of a very few members
of our legislature whom can genuinely be called public servants,
the rest seem to be either compromised by something which prevents
them from taking action, or they are obviously compliant with these
great changes sweeping like an uncontrolled wildfire across our land.

However, and though the hour is late, I still believe that God has a
plan and a purpose for America.  May He continue to shed His mercy,
strength, and grace on the people of this nation.

"Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people
He has chosen for His inheritance."
(Psalm 33:12)

April Birthday Girl

I could not let the month of April pass by without a special Happy Birthday salute
to a precocious, curly-topped moppet, who stole America's heart during the
dark days of the Great Depression, and who later traded in her acting career for
the real life role as a US ambassador to the nations of Czechoslovakia and Ghana.

She is the one and only Shirley Temple!

Shirley Jane Temple Black
(April 23, 1928-February 12, 2014)

I love all of Shirley's movies, however, my favorite, "Bright Eyes" (1934)
features her singing what can only be called her "signature song".

"On The Good Ship Lollipop"
(1934)

After taking tap lessons at the Meglin Dance Studio in Hollywood as a toddler,
Shirley would later display her amazing dancing talent alongside actor/dancer
Bill "Bojangles" Robinson in the 1935 movie, "The Little Colonel".

Shirley Dances With Bill "Bojangles" Robinson

(1935)

And with actor Buddy Ebsen, who would one day portray television's millionaire
hillbilly Jed Clampett, and detective Barnaby Jones, seen here dancing
with Shirley in the 1936 movie, "Captain January".

"At The Codfish Ball"
(1936)

Shirley also paired up with British actor and dance man
Arthur Treacher, in 1939's "The Little Princess".

"The Old Kent Road"
(1939)

I am pleased to know that I have something in common with Shirley too,
and that is, doll collecting!   I have several Shirley Temple dolls in my ever
expanding doll family and I absolutely love them!  Two of my latest acquired
Shirley dolls were found in mint condition ( Danbury Mint editions)
standing amid the usual bric-a-brac on a shelf in a local thrift store.

When I spied those familiar golden brown ringlets from across
the store I made a beeline for these beautiful dolls, whose total price,
along with another lovely doll I found, (not a Shirley) but handmade in Ireland,
cost me only $21.00!  (It was Senior Discount Day).  But what a great find!

In 2015, some of Shirley's massive doll collection and other memorabilia were put on display
in museums around the nation as part of an event sponsored by Theriault's Auction,
appropriately called "Love, Shirley Temple".

God, Who touchest earth with beauty,

Make my heart a-new;

With Thy spirit recreate me,

Pure, strong, and true.

Like Thy springs and running waters,

Make me crystal pure;

Like Thy rocks of towering grandeur

Make me strong and sure.

Like Thy dancing waves in the sunlight,

Make me glad and free;

Like the straightness of Thy pine trees

Make me upright be.

Like the arching of the heavens,

Lift my thoughts above;

Turn my dreams to noble action,

Ministries of love.

God, Who touchest earth with beauty,

Make my heart a-new;

Keep me ever, by Thy spirit,

Pure and strong and true.

Every Hour I Need Thy Blessing

"O God, my heart is fixed; I will sing and give praise, even with my glory.
For Thy mercy is great above the heavens: and Thy truth reacheth unto the clouds.
Give us help from trouble: for vain is the help of man.  Through God we shall
do valiantly: for He it is that shall tread down our enemies."
(Psalm 108:1,4,12, 13)

Every hour I need Thy blessing,

Every moment need Thy care,

Lord, to Thee I come confessing,

All the sins that me ensnare.

Bless the thoughts that come each moment,

Make them true and pure and fair,

Like to Thine our great atonement,

Beautiful beyond compare.

Every hour I need Thy blessing,

Daily need Thy wondrous love,

Love so tender, so protecting,

Coming from Thy throne above.

For Thy loving care and blessing,

Make me thankful day by day,

By my walk and daily living,

Praising Christ the Living Way.

Every hour I need Thy blessing,

Every moment need Thy care,

Until Thou my soul possessing,

Shall reflect Thine image there.

Then to Christ the King of Glory,

He who bought me with great price,

I shall sing the old, old, story,

Christ my Lord, my sacrifice.

Monday Meditation: Peace, Perfect Peace

because He trusteth in Thee.   Trust ye in the Lord forever;
for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength."
(Isaiah 26:3-4)

Peace, perfect peace, in this dark world of sin?

The blood of Jesus whispers peace within.

Peace, perfect peace, by thronging duties pressed?

To do the will of Jesus; this is rest.

Peace, perfect peace, with sorrows surging round?

On Jesus' bosom naught but calm is found.

Peace, perfect peace, with loved ones far away?

In Jesus' keeping we are safe, and they.

Peace, perfect peace, our future all unknown?

Jesus we know, and He is on the throne.

Peace, perfect peace, death shadowing us and ours?

Jesus has vanquished death and all its powers.

It is enough: earth's struggles soon shall cease,

And Jesus calls us to Heaven's perfect peace.

Send Out Thy Light And Thy Truth O Lord

"And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
(John 8:32)

Psalm 43

Judge me, O God, and plead my cause against an ungodly nation:

O deliver me from the deceitful and unjust man.

For Thou art the God of my strength; Why dost Thou cast me off?

Why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?

O send out Thy light and Thy truth: let them lead me;

Let them bring me unto Thy holy hill, and to Thy tabernacles.

Then will I go unto the altar of God, unto God, my exceeding joy:

Yea, upon the harp will I praise Thee, O God, my God.

Why art thou cast down, O my soul?

And why art though disquieted within me?

Hope in God: For I shall yet praise Him,

Who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

The Sangre de Cristo Mountains were named in 1719 by the
Spanish explorer Antonio Valverde y Cosio.  As he watched the sunrise
one morning he was so moved by the beautiful red tint of sunlight on the snowy
mountain peaks, that he was said to have uttered the words, "Sangre de Cristo"
which in Spanish means, "Blood of Christ".

Song Of A Second April

"There is one good thing about this world...there are always sure to be more springs."
-L.M. Montgomery

The Mill Stream In Spring
Arthur Hopkins
(1848-1930)
British artist

April this year, not otherwise

Than April of a year ago,

Is full of whispers, full of sighs,

 Of dazzling mud and dingy snow;

Hepaticas that pleased you so

 Are here again, and butterflies.

There rings a hammering all day,

And shingles lie about the doors;

In orchards near and far away

The grey wood-pecker taps and bores;

The men are merry at their chores,

And children earnest at their play.

The larger streams run still and deep,

Noisy and swift the small brooks run

Among the mullein stalks the sheep

Go up the hillside in the sun,

Pensively,-only you are gone,

You that alone I cared to keep.

On My Mind: The Most Important Issue

"When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice:
but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn."
(Proverbs 29:2)

In a poll I took this morning regarding the most important issue facing
Americans in the upcoming November elections, I chose the third option
concerning parents' rights and stopping the indoctrination of our children into
accepting Critical Race Theory and gender curricula, etc. as the new normal.

These damnable issues are not only inflicting serious and irreparable harm
on our children, but, trashing our Constitutional rights, thus hastening the
disintegration of our once free and successful society.

Furthermore, and while it breaks my heart to write this, after the disastrous
2020 election, the great privilege of casting one's vote without fear of fraud,
identity theft, or having your uncounted ballot dumped in the trash
somewhere, is gone forever.

The laws governing right and wrong in this nation have been so twisted by
communist wolves in liberal sheepskin that harden criminals walk free in the
streets of American cities and towns, while innocent babies in the womb and
even after birth, are being targeted for execution.   Crime rates continue to
soar across our nation, not only due to the influx of illegal drugs, alien gangs,
and other criminals, but because there is no longer any real fear of punishment.

Meanwhile, the mainstream media continues to play their absurd role, remaining
wholly complicit in their "unbiased" attitude towards criminal behavior, in their
reluctance to report the race of a suspect involved in a crime, unless of course,
that suspect is a dreaded Caucasian or white-skinned person.

The motive behind this is to stoke continuous racial animosity between white
and black people in this country.  However, I pray that many Americans, regardless
of their race or skin color, who love their freedom, and are in possession of both an
independent mindset and a conscience, are becoming wise to this, and will stand
up and fight back against this dreadful blight affecting our nation,
better known as communist-instigated, "Wokeness".

May the mind of Christ, my Savior,

Live in me from day to day,

By His love and power controlling

All I do or say.

May the Word of God dwell richly

In my heart from hour to hour,

So that all may see I triumph

Only through His power.

May the peace of God, my Father

Rule my life in everything,

That I may be calm to comfort

Sick and sorrowing.

May the love of Jesus fill me

As the waters fill the sea;

Him exalting, self abasing,

This is victory.

May I run the race before me,

Strong and brave to face the foe,

Looking only unto Jesus

As I onward go.

May His beauty rest upon me,

As I seek the lost to win,

And may they forget the channel,

Seeing only Him.

O Love divine, what hast Thou done!

The incarnate God hath died for me!

The Father's co-eternal Son

Bore all my sins upon the tree!

The Son of God for me hath died

My Lord, my Love, is crucified.

Is crucified for me and you,

To bring us rebels back to God:

Believe, believe the record true,

Ye all are bought with Jesus' blood:

Pardon for all flows from His side:

My Lord, my Love, is crucified.

Behold Him, all ye that pass by,

The bleeding Prince of life and peace!

Come, sinners, see your Savior die,

And say, was ever grief like His?

Come feel with me His blood applied:

My Lord, my Love, is crucified.

Amen.

The God Of Abraham Praise

The God of Abraham praise,

All praised be His Name,

Who was, and is, and is to be,

And still the same!

The one eternal God,

Ere aught that now appears;

The First, the Last: beyond all thought

His timeless years!

His spirit floweth free

High surging where it will:

In prophet's word He spoke of old-

He speaketh still.

Deep writ upon the human heart,

On sea, or land.

He hath eternal life

Implanted in the soul;

His love shall be our strength and stay,

While ages roll.

Praise to the living God!

All praised be His Name

Who was, and is, and is to be,

And still the same!

Amen
