Today marks 32 years since the passing of one of the greatest "honky-tonk" singers
of all time, the legendary American country music crooner-songwriter Roger Miller.
Many people of a certain age reading this will remember his best-selling, multi-
Grammy award-winning novelty song, "King Of The Road". Released in 1965, this
catchy tune about a hobo who travels the rails as a "man of means by no means"
brings back happy memories of summer vacations when my Dad and Mom
use to take all of us kids camping up in Maine in a rented Winnebago.
Of course, by the end of the trip, Dad was more than happy to turn the keys
back in at the dealership and resign his temporary title as the tired "king"
of the holiday road! But those were good times shared as a family all
together and great memories of the America which used to be.
Later in his career, Roger guest-starred on "Murder She Wrote"
playing the role of a skeptical sheriff in the episode, "It's A Dog's Life".
