"The day my Mama socked it to the Harper Valley P.T.A."
This fiery anthem about small town gossip and hypocrisy became
a coast-to-coast hit in America and all around the world in 1968,
and was a dream come true for beautiful Texas-born Jeannie C. Riley,
who not only became an overnight country music sensation, but
won a Grammy Award for Best Country Vocal Performance
(Female) as well as the "Record of the Year" award
from the Country Music Association for that year.
In her book, "From Harper Valley To The Mountain Top"
Jeannie admits she almost did not record this song because
there was something about it that she did not like.
It's a good thing she changed her mind!
