Sunday Night In Uncle Walt's Vault: The Liberty Story

"Pay the price they're asking boys,

Always pay the tyrant's fee,

Never give up the struggle, boys.

Fight for the Liberty Tree.

It's a tall old tree

And a strong old Tree

And we are the Sons,

Yes, we are the Sons,

The Sons of Liberty!"

In the wake of recent events in the world this weekend,  I was glad to
find this excerpt from Walt Disney's "The Liberty Story".  This short
presentation, which originally aired as part of the Disneyland Anthology
program on May 29th, 1957 centers around the concept of freedom
and the rights of man throughout the centuries.

It also highlights the courageous action adventure story of "Johnny Tremain".
Based on the novel by Esther Forbes, it is the story of a young silver-smith's
apprentice who joins the outlawed Sons of Liberty in pre-Revolutionary War Boston.

There is also a brief introduction to the cartoon, "Ben And Me"
which I posted on this blog last fall.

Although his proposed "Liberty Square" at Disneyland, was never built,
Uncle Walt was a true historian with a great love and respect
for the preservation of America's history.

I  recommend adding the movie, " Johnny Tremain" to your
home DVD library and reading the Esther Forbes novel with your
children and grandchildren.  In these uncertain and troubling times,
the story of America's hard won freedom to become an independent
nation and the people who made it happen, should never be
  considered yesterday's news.
