A special Flashback Friday Birthday Salute to the phenomenal Billy Joel!
75 years young this week! (May 9th).
Joel's fifth studio album, "The Stranger" was a smashing success
after its release in September of 1977, and the quintessential love song,
"Just The Way You Are" dominated the air waves in America when
released as a single in November of that year.
It stayed at the top of Billboard's Easy Listening Charts through
January, 1978 and was Joel's first Gold Single record. The song also won
two Grammy awards for Record of the Year and Song of the Year in 1979.
Although he wrote, "Just The Way You Are" for his first wife,
the song was not liked by Joel or his band members, and he was
going to cut it from "The Stranger" album. However, at the
request of fellow singers Linda Ronstadt and Phoebe Snow,
he later agreed to keep the song. I'm sure glad he did!
