The Rock That Is Higher Than I

"Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer.
From the ends of the earth will I cry to You,
when my heart is overwhelmed and fainting;
lead me to the Rock that is higher that I,
yes, a Rock that is too high for me.
For You have been a shelter and a refuge
for me, a strong tower against the adversary.
I will dwell in Your tabernacle forever;
let me find refuge and trust in the
shelter of Your wings."
Psalm 61:1-4

O sometimes the shadows are deep,

And rough seems the path to the goal,

And sorrows, sometimes how they sweep

Like tempests down over the soul!

O then to the Rock let me fly,

let me fly,

To the Rock that is higher than I;

is higher than I;

O then to the Rock let me fly,

let me fly,

To the Rock that is higher than I!

O sometimes how long seems the day,

And sometimes how weary my feet;

But toiling in life's dusty way,

The Rock's blessed shadow, how sweet!

O then to the Rock let me fly,

let me fly,

To the Rock that is higher than I;

is higher than I;

O then to the Rock let me fly,

let me fly,

To the Rock that is higher than I!

O near to the Rock let me keep

If blessings or sorrows prevail,

Or climbing the mountain way steep,

Or walking the shadowy vale.

O then to the Rock let me fly,

let me fly,

To the Rock that is higher than I;

is higher than I;

O then to the Rock let me fly,

let me fly,

To the Rock that is higher than I!
