"...and on this rock I will build My church and the
gates of Hades shall not overpower it."
Matthew 16:18
The historic Pensacola Cross
Atheists have lost their case in Florida against the Pensacola cross
which was erected 80 years ago as America prepared to enter World War II.
According to Faithwire.com, in a statement from
Becket Law, a firm focused on religious liberty issues,
the cross will not be taken down after this latest
decision in the multi-year court battle.
Beckett Law confirms, "In American Legion v. American Humanist
Association, ... the Eleventh Circuit ruled that the cross is constitutional,
acknowledging that it has become "embedded in the fabric of
the Pensacola community" and that removing it could "strike
many as aggressively hostile to religion."
While I am glad that the cross will continue to stand,
remember that it is not the cross which bothers the atheist's heart.
It is Who the cross represents.
