Tornado! In South Jersey

Just as we were settling in to watch some television early
last night, the program we were watching was suddenly
interrupted as a message flashed across the TV screen:

Tornado Warning!
Take Shelter Immediately!

The tornado seen here touched down only a few miles from
where I live in southern New Jersey. A resident in the nearby
community of  Mullica Hill managed to capture the
approaching twister in this short and scary video!

Tornado Caught On Camera!
Mullica Hill, Gloucester County, New Jersey

Thank God the worst of this storm passed just to the north of
our town and there were no reports of any injuries or major damage.
The storm intensified for a brief time as it moved further on,
damaging rooftops and picking up and tossing unsecured debris
like lawn furniture and trash cans, and even a backyard
utility shed in one area.  The wind also uprooted
quite a few trees across southern New Jersey last night.

The late spring season is a time for sudden and often
unpredictable weather.  Although the forecast had called for
strong storms moving through our area, there was no
mention of the possibility of tornadoes until this one
came barreling down out of the sky last night!

So remember, it is important to stay alert at this
time of the year.  Just because New Jersey rarely has
tornadoes does not mean that the violent storm systems
which often produce them cannot happen here.
