A September Farewell

"He has made everything beautiful and appropriate in its time.
He has also planted eternity, a sense of divine purpose, in the human heart-
a mysterious longing which nothing under the sun can satisfy, except God,
yet man cannot comprehend what God has done from the beginning to the end."
Ecclesiastes 3:11

Lo! a ripe sheaf of many golden days

Gleaned by the year in autumn's harvest ways,

With here and there, blood-tinted as an ember,

Some crimson poppy of a late delight

Atoning in its splendor for the flight

Of summer blooms and joys

This is September.
