A Savior Among The Dead

A wounded warrior I am,

Bloody, bleak, no sign of hope,

A thousand dead from both sides

The smell of smoke and cries

from the dying men around me.

Two armies fought for what?

More faith or blood?

A leader of men I was before today

told my brothers in the field

that a kingdom waits for some of us.

And those who do not see the kingdom now

will see it someday.

O Father God,

All I pray is that the men

who walked in the shadow of death

may find peace and forgiveness

in Your Kingdom.

A warrior of Christ hopes and prays.

"Oh Father, I am here for Your command

in upcoming battles I must face.

I wear the armor of faith

marching into the heat of battle

and even if I must die,

my final prayer is that Your Word, O Lord,

will be spread throughout the earth.

Even now, as I lay here

on ground covered with blood and bodies

the vision of my earthly life fading from view

I hear my Savior calling my name

 from among the dead.

 I answer,

"Here I am, Lord."

The light of His being surrounds me.

No more earthly battles shall I face.

"Oh Lord, You have come to take me home."
