Israel's 9/11 Memorial

Israel is the only other nation in the world
with a monument dedicated to the memory of
the victims of September 11, 2001.

September 11, 2001 Memorial
 Jerusalem, Israel

The cenotaph was created by award-winning Israeli artist
Eliezer Weishoff.  The inauguration ceremony on November 12, 2009
was attended by US Ambassador to Israel James B. Cunningham,
members of Israeli cabinet and legislature, family members
and friends of the victims, and others.

A Hebrew inscription on the monument

Made from granite, bronze, and aluminum, the cenotaph takes the shape of a waving
American flag with a flame at the tip. A piece of metal from the ruins of the
Twin Towers forms part of the base on which the monument rests. Inscribed on a glass
encased metal plate on the circular wall of the memorial are the names of
every victim, which includes five Israeli citizens who lost their lives that day.
The monument is located within view of Har HaMenuchot,
Jerusalem's main cemetery, which in the Hebrew languages means,
"Mount Of Those Who Are Resting"
