Dream Man

I don't know why I have not thought about
writing a post on Jeff before...
I think watching the movie,

(1959)

yesterday morning triggered
a distant memory of a young housewife
swept up in the technicolor fantasy
 of 1950's Hollywood melodrama
and the handsome prince of Judah who
captured her lonely heart...

 Actor Jeff Chandler
December 15, 1918-June 17, 1961
Born Ira Grossel
Brooklyn, New York

You stepped out of a dream
You are too wonderful to be what you seem!
Could there be eyes like yours,
Could there be lips like yours
Could there be smiles like yours,
Honest and truly?
You stepped out of a cloud
I want to take you away, away from the crowd
And have you all to myself,
Alone and apart out of a dream,
Safe in my heart
You stepped out of a dream
You are too wonderful to be what you seem!
Could there be eyes like yours,
Could there be lips like yours
Could there be smiles like yours,
Honest and truly?
You stepped out of a cloud
I want to take you away, away from the crowd
And have you all to myself,
Alone and apart out of a dream,
Safe in my heart
Nacio Herb Brown/Gus Kahn
 (1940)

Jeff was nominated for an Oscar for his
portrayal of the great Apache warrior Cochise
in the western movie classic,
"Broken Arrow"
(1950)

One of my favorite Jeff Chandler
movies is the love story,
"Because of You"
(1952)
co-starring beautiful
  Loretta Young

Jeff played Carol Lynley's
mentor/lover in the movie sequel,
"Return To Peyton Place"
(1961)

Jeff played real life World War II
US Army General Frank Merrill in
"Merrill's Marauders"
(Released in 1962 after his death)

Gone Way Too Soon...

While making the film "Merrill's Marauders" on location
in the  Philippines, Jeff injured his back while playing
baseball with some American soldiers on the set.
He flew back to America where he tragically died from
complications after back surgery.
He was only 42 years old.

Jeff sings the theme from the movie,
"Foxfire"
(1955)
in which he co-starred with
 Hollywood's brunette bombshell
actress Jane Russell
